Job Description

The AI and Advanced Architectures team is looking for a Principal Program Manager to join our fast-growing, innovative team. We are driving company-wide and industry-leading advancements in AI algorithms, custom hardware, framework-level software, and hyperscale AI training and inferencing systems.

 

The Optical Breakthrough Interconnect (OBI) PM will be responsible for developing roadmaps, milestones and key requirements for the delivery of a next generation interconnect fabric.  The OBI team will be comprised of a large, technically diverse, virtual team that will include members in many different organizations located in several different regions.  The regions include several US sites as well as locations across Europe.  The PM will be responsible for coordinating milestone delivery among the various teams and tracking key dependencies. 

 

The project will include building prototypes and proof of concept systems that will be used to inform the ultimate project goals and demonstrate key technical capabilities along the roadmap.  The prototypes will be built using several different facilities including commercial fabs, university clean rooms and commercial board manufacturers.  The PM will coordinate the build, test and characterization of all prototype components and proof of concept systems.   The PM will support the characterization of devices in specialized labs that will be utilized in several locations.

 

We are a multidisciplinary team with a collaborative culture and a strong track record of delivering strategic impact to Microsoft, as part of the Azure Hardware Systems Group. We have a proven history of driving creation and deployment of AI acceleration systems to Microsoft data centers worldwide and innovating on that hardware to break new ground in deep learning and artificial intelligence.

 

Responsibilities

In this role, you will work with dev leads, researchers, customers, and other Microsoft teams to plan and implement new AI hardware platforms and capabilities. The PM will coordinate the build, test and characterization of all prototype components and proof of concept systems.   The PM will support the characterization of devices in specialized labs that will be utilized in several locations. The position requires excellent communication skills, technical background in computing systems, excellent organizational skills and the willingness to travel to multiple locations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • B.S or higher in computer engineering, computer science, or related fields.
  • 8+ years' experience with program management of prototype design and proof of concept development.
  • 10+ years of program management experience with a proven track record of delivering large, complex, cross-team technical projects.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong intellectual curiosity and passion about learning new technologies.
  • Experience working with geographically and technically diverse teams.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the desire to collaborate in a team of engineers.
