Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Principal Research Scientist, are to: 

 

  • Be a member of the Research Applications Team and report to Head of Research Applications;
  • Identify research projects and develop new protocols based on cutting edge research and innovations in the technical field of biological and biochemical materials;
  • Conduct the seed production innovation research in lab, controlled environment or field conditions in order to maximize overall seed yields, increase seed quality, reduce cost, accidents and minimize waste;
  • Lead a development of new, safe seed technologies and enhancement of current technologies to create competitive advantage in seed quality and operations;
  • Partner with Legal and IP teams to ensure that all pollen research and related efforts are in compliance with FTO and IP valuation processes;
  • Collaborate across various teams within Bayer to drive the development of innovative seed production technologies and explore new applications across crops and functions;
  • Assist the Innovation Engineering leadership team in identifying and implementing improvements related to productivity, capacity, cost, quality and safety;
  • Foster and promote a culture of safety, innovation, customer focus and collaboration;
  • Communicate effectively with peers, stakeholders and leadership.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. with at least five years of experience in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering or a related field;
  • Five or more years of experience in process, assay improvement or method transfer;
  • Proven track record of managing complex inter-disciplinary initiatives;
  • Broad knowledge and experience in biological preservation and cryopreservation research and development;
  • Clear examples of taking initiative, identifying new methods and approaches and challenging assumptions;
  • Clear examples of teamwork across broad disciplines with varied levels of familiarity of plant part and cell preservation;
  • Willingness to travel 25% of time.
