AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated and experienced leader to join our centralized Drug Discovery Science and Technology (DDST) organization as the lead of our internal DNA Encoded Library (DEL) platform. The successful candidate will be working in a cross functional team to continually enhance internal DEL capabilities and infrastructure as well as oversee our DEL screening activities in support of targets across discovery. The applicant should have extensive experience in DEL technology and a strong track record in successfully applying the DEL platform for hit generation against different target classes in addition to a solid understanding of DNA encoded library selection, protein sciences, biophysics and enzymology. The candidate should be able to work effectively in a cross disciplinary team environment and will manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic and rapidly evolving project landscape. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team to enhance DEL screening processes and infrastructure
  • Design and implement project-specific screening strategies with therapy area partners
  • Align hit generation strategies with key project needs as key member of early drug discovery programs
  • Align with protein biochemistry, biophysics, screening teams, project teams, and chemistry teams for hit follow-up
  • Build internal platform learnings through active leadership of new methods development for DEL screening/selection and library design/enhancement
  • Maintain knowledge of current scientific literature and methods on DEL and other screening platforms. Contribute ideas and adopt novel technologies to improve research methodologies
  • Champion innovation and generate new research strategies to effectively address project needs

 


Qualifications

Qualifications:

Position will be hired based on level of experience.

  • PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemistry, or related field with typically 8-10+ years of relevant academic and/or pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Extensive hands-on experience in DEL selection and a strong track record in successfully applying DEL platform for hit generation
  • Highly skilled in protein handling and extensive experience in different biochemical and biophysical methods for protein characterization
  • Platform expertise beyond selection sciences (i.e. library construction, informatics, and/or deconvolution) required
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, capable of finding innovative ways to overcome issues
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to contribute in a multidisciplinary environment are essential
  • Experience in leading teams/collaborations and ability to manage several projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment
