Principal Scientist – Biologics Discovery – Predictive Bioinformatics and Molecular Design

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will join our Biologics Discovery group, located at Amgen British Columbia. Our team specializes in the discovery and characterization of large molecule-based therapeutics to help treat grievous human disease.

In this vital role, you will lead our efforts dedicated to the discovery of Biologic molecules to support therapeutic lead selection by applying the latest digital innovations in sequence-based discovery and predictive screening. This is a fast-evolving space and requires a flexible and creative individual, well versed in integrating large and complex data sets and who can incorporate the predictive nature of emerging AI/ML science.
 

Responsibilities:

• Embed themselves with our wet-lab teams to lead communication and drive collaboration between the computational data sciences and discovery teams.

• Establish lead selection strategies for early therapeutic molecule discovery.

• Act as a key architect and champion for new data ecosystem projects to support discovery activities.

• Work in close collaboration with software engineers and our Research Informatics teams.

• Embrace the challenge of redefining conventional Biologics Discovery through the application of novel digital solutions.

Basic Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree and 3 years of experience
  OR

• Master’s degree and 6 years of experience
  OR

• Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Broad knowledge of large molecule drug discovery, such as antibodies or multi-specifics.

• Research experience with biochemical, biophysical, structural, and molecular properties of proteins.

• Experience in developing novel computational methods and bioinformatic tools to help manipulate, visualize, and analyze biological data sets.

• A solid base in statistical analysis.

• Proficiency in at least one common coding language (Python and R preferred).

• Experience with a large-scale laboratory data management ecosystems.

• Experience with laboratory automation, automated analysis workflows and their integration into data management systems.

• The ability to simplify and convey complex ideas, and to communicate effectively with colleagues from different fields.

• Desire to work in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
