What you will do

In this vital role you will work directly within various Amgen project teams to apply quantitative solutions in the development of novel therapeutics through various activities including target/compound evaluation, design of preclinical studies, assessment of preclinical and clinical exposure relationships (target engagement, pharmacodynamic, and efficacy), execution of translational strategies, and influence clinical study design.

Responsibilities:

• Design and implement PKPD and mechanistic modeling activities in the preclinical space for drug discovery and development.
• Beyond individual contributor activities, this position is expected to coach and mentor junior staff in the preclinical PKPD modeling space, lead scientific strategy across the PKDM department, and build relationship across functions within the larger Research organization.
• Requires critical and strategic thinking, excellent communication and teamwork skills and passion for using quantitative principles to guide the efficient development of drugs to help patients in need.
• This position also provides the opportunity to pursue scientific inquiries into PK/PD relationship of small and large molecule biotherapeutics, author and review of scientific reports, scientific papers and presentations at scientific meetings.

Basic Qualifications:

• Doctorate degree and 3 years of Chemical or Biomedical experience Or
• Master’s degree and 6 years of Chemical or Biomedical experience Or
• Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of Chemical or Biomedical experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctorate (Ph.D.) in chemical or biomedical engineering; applied mathematics; quantitative pharmaceutical sciences or a related field with 5+ years of experience in drug discovery and development
• Proven track record applying systems modeling and simulation approaches in biological systems and/or drug development to support strategic decision making
• Proficiency with systems modeling approaches such as differential equations, nonlinear mixed effects modeling, logic, stochastic, agent-based, or other advanced mechanistic modeling approaches is essential
• Hands-on experience with relevant software or programming languages (e.g., Simbiology, MATLAB, R, or C) is essential.
• Experience mentoring junior scientist on technical and strategic aspects of PKPD modeling is preferred
• Highly motivated, self-driven, can perform well both working independently and in team settings
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
