A Principal Engineer is one of the highest ICs in the Venmo engineering organization. This role will be a very hands-on role working closely with the Architects, Product leads, Design leads and the CTO of Venmo. Senior staff engineers are the key hands-on developers for key initiatives and will help drive the coding and engineering culture here at Venmo.

What You'll Do

• Work closely with Domain Architects and engineering managers to understand overarching business objectives, achieve the groups OKRs and KPIs for each and every quarter.
• Recognize, validate and evangelize emerging technologies and architectures that align with business objectives.
• Close partnership with Product Managers to understand business needs and clarify requirements before and throughout implementation.
• Active code contribution to the implementation of solutions.
• Leading implementation design of key initiatives that benefit our customers and the business.
• Defining code review guidelines and development processes addressing technical debt, maintaining and curating codebases, etc.  
• Ensuring proper unit and automated tests delivered before feature goes live.
• Coach/mentor technical leads/engineers on design principles.

What We're Looking For

• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Demonstrable ability to learn new technologies and process practices.
• 10+ years experience in software development or a related field
• Experience mentoring and developing software engineers
• Strong communication skills with the ability to understand and explain technical issues to a non-technical audience
• Experience working on a large object-oriented code base.
