How will you make an impact?
 
Principal Systems Engineer is key to defining and developing new technologies including instrumentation and consumable products in the Genetic Sciences Division.  This individual will lead system requirements definition, concepts development as well as system integration aspects of product development and manufacturing roll-out in collaboration with highly technical and specialized engineering professionals and scientists for our world class Microarray, qPCR, Capillary Electrophoresis, and Rapid DNA platforms in both RUO and IVD markets.
 
The Principal Engineer will have personal responsibility for leading complex technology development projects with high level of ambiguity by providing technical direction and focus to drive Genetic Sciences Division objectives as follows:

 
  • Partner with our Product Management and other cross-functional teams to define technology solutions, system architectures and integration design, development, feasibility testing and verification.
  • Understand customers and effectively translate their needs to product requirements, experience in usability engineering is a plus.
  • Drive organizational consensus and able to make difficult technical decisions which have significant and long-lasting business impact.  Effectively present data driven and well justified technical decisions to gain approvals from Senior Leadership and KOLs.
  • Lead multi-functional subsystems owners to design and develop new technology and systems from beginning to end of the complex sample workflow(s) including ownership of all aspects of design reviews, d/pFMEA processes, and design documentation.
  • Plan, develop, and analyze system integration in order to maintain requirement traceability through various subsystems and verification activities in collaboration with subsystem requirements owners
  • Personally, contribute to data-driven decision making by designing experiments, analyzing, and deriving conclusions.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to transfer new technologies and products into manufacturing. Lead troubleshooting activities to determine root cause of complex issues using industry standard methods and tools.
 
Key experiences should include:

 
  • Industry expert level understanding of microarray technology, workflows and chemistry. Significant knowledge in at-least one other area of genetic analysis tools such as: NGS, CE Sanger sequencing, qPCR, bioinformatics, or sample preparation.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive organizational alignment around strategic technical decisions and multiple examples of successful networking across organizations. Deep experience working across multi-disciplined teams / cross - functional teams – Scientists, Engineers, Software, Product Management, Operations.
  • Mastery in systems engineering processes, from requirements gathering and risk analysis to statistical power in validation and on-market product support.
  • Considerable experience in developing high complexity integrated life sciences or clinical systems, consumables, and software including oligo synthesis and microarrays workflow
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize and handle multiple and changing programs/projects and priorities.
  • Experience in working with regulatory teams and knowledge of regulatory agency requirements.

How will you get here?
 
Education:

 
  • MS/Ph.D. degree in an Engineering discipline or Applied Physics
 
Experience:

 
  • 15+ years experience in genomics instrumentation, consumables, and assays in R&D setting, preferably in microarrays
  • 5+ years experience as technical lead in new product development
  • 3+ years experience serving regulated markets in a commercial environment
  • Track record of delivering successful RUO and IVD products with a thorough understanding of quality systems
  • Demonstrated success working in a global, matrixed environment and willingness to travel up to 25%, domestic or international

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively build and manage internal and external relationships at senior levels
