Responsibilities

You will define and deliver innovative technologies that are pivotal in the user experience of Surface. This position involves working closely with other product architects, development engineers of various disciplines, as well as component suppliers and manufacturing engineering.

Responsibilities include the creation of the design specifications and delivering the core designs for display and touch system interfaces. You will be responsible for driving strategic approaches with specific oversight and delivery of display architecture integration, component selections, and partner management to deliver cutting edge product solutions.
• Working with and leading a team of engineers to design, test and debug complex hardware technologies and product integrations, working in close collaboration with organizations across the Surface group and Microsoft
• Lead investigations and analysis for new interfaces and subsystem requirements, breaking down complex issues to drive alignment and resolve issues in a timely manner
• Develop, review, and execute system validation plans for Surface display sub-systems with a focus on critical parameters and required quality. Provide guidance and ensure alignment of related supplier test execution, as well as internal design verification activities.
• Develop detailed models and analytical tools to gain insights and understanding of complex systems and identify associated opportunities and risks within these systems. Identify unique and novel solutions to complex system problems
• Optimize existing processes or create required processes that enable successful product development and create opportunities for leverage across programs or across other Surface teams – all with a focus on our ability to drive innovation, engineering excellence, design efficiencies, and product quality
• Specific areas of design ownership will be focused on display interface components, including high speed signal design, signal integrity, RF desense, and power, as well as partner engagement across the supply chain to ensure high quality display solutions for Surface products

Qualifications

• BSEE or equivalent, MSEE preferred
• 10+ years of industry work experience in similar role designing high volume consumer electronics
• Directly related experience in high speed video interfaces such as PC displays
• Strong design skills and solid understanding of core engineering principles, fundamental circuit design, and analytical techniques are required, as well as demonstrated experience in analog/digital electronics design bring-up and debug
• Direct experience in development of high-speed signal systems, including signal routing for signal integrity and noise mitigations
• Experience with display and touch systems highly desired
• Hands on experience with layout and schematic capture tools
• Experience with Manufacturing partners and design for manufacturing and test
• Proven ability to manage and lead product development activities in a self-sufficient manner
• Enthusiastic and self-motivated with a team-oriented approach
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to clearly express technical concepts and issues in spoken and written forms to all levels of the organization and management
