Overview:

Lead New Product Development and sustaining engineering projects for disposable medical devices including their integration with electro-mechanical systems.

Critical Responsibilities:

• Serve as the technical expert for new product development and sustaining engineering programs.

• Coordinate and communicate the efforts of R&D in collaboration with Global Commercial, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Outside Partners, and other cross-functional stakeholders.

• Creative Problem Solver – identify technical risks up front, develop and execute mitigation plans and provide team with direction on how to remove or avoid roadblocks.

• Identify, investigate, and solve engineering problems using various engineering techniques, procedures and criteria with minimal guidance.

• Schedules, budgets, and leads a team through product development with minimal guidance.

• Identify and interface with vendors to obtain equipment, components, supplies or services.

• Build strong relationships with Commercial and Clinical partners to understand product application, market dynamics and opportunities to provide innovative product solutions.

• Adhere to design control procedures, general safety rules, company policies and procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices, and FDA regulations.

• Lead the creation and maintenance of design history files.

• Supervises/coordinates engineer(s) and/or technicians on assigned work.

• Contribute to Baxter intellectual property through invention disclosures and patent applications.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors in Mechanical, Plastics, Biomedical Engineering or a related field, Masters preferred.

• 5 – 8 years of related experience in Class II or Class III medical product development.

• Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) training or certification preferred.

Skills:

• Working knowledge of plastics materials and processing such as injection molding, extrusion, ultrasonic welding, UV/solvent bonding, and sterilization.  Advanced knowledge preferred.

• Provide solutions that reflect understanding of business objectives and cost implications.

• Strong knowledge of MS Office and MS Project.

• Ability to train and coach others from technical expertise

• Advanced knowledge of medical device design controls preferred.

• Working knowledge of SolidWorks 3D design software and PDM enterprise preferred.

• Able to objectively identify technical problems and create solutions.

• Communicate frequently and efficiently with internal and/or external contacts.

• Self-directed, resourceful, and able to manage multiple priorities.

• Able to work in a fast paced and results driven environment.

• Able to work independently.

• Strong interpersonal, collaboration and influencing skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong organization, attention to detail, and documentation skills.

• Ability to read, write and comprehend English.

Travel

• Occasional up to 15%
