What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will join our Biosafety Development (BSD) group.

The senior associate will perform molecular assays and viral clearance assessment studies for various Amgen’s pharmaceutical products and will partake in technology development for detection and identification of adventitious agents of any type.

Primary focus will be on model virus production and characterization and performing assays for the detection of viruses and protein purification processes using AKTA Unicorn HPLC methods involving all modes of chromatography (e.g. affinity, ion exchange, hydrophobic, mixed mode).

Responsibilities may include the following:

Utilize chromatography techniques for the purification or removal of viruses

Characterization of virus preparations

Utilize molecular biology techniques for the detection of adventitious agent, including viruses and mycoplasma

Maintenance of mammalian cell lines, Infection of cells with viruses and detection using qPCR methods

Identification of viruses, bacteria or fungus using sequencing methods

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree OR
  • Bachelor’s degree & 2 years of scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hands on experience with purification system, including but not limited to AKTA Chromatography system
  • Experience with scale-down models and process transfer
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills and a desire to learn new scientific concepts
  • Work as a member of a small team to follow and develop methods
  • Demonstrate good planning and project execution skills
  • Clearly and concisely interpret and present data
  • Ability to understand, apply and evaluate cell biology, virology and mathematical principles.
