Job Title: Process Engineer

Reports to: Engineering Manager

Operationally: DNP Jiang Shan

Key Areas of Accountability / Responsibility

• Ensure that the Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Assurance Procedures are followed during the execution of all projects and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all process engineering work
• Engaged in process engineering performance started from feasibility studies, conceptual design, basic design and detailed design work.
• Responsible for the quality of the process design, and the control and reporting of all process engineering work on the project. This includes reviewing the owner-provided engineering data for consistency, performing optimization and metallurgy studies, providing design documents and specifications, providing support and clarification to the disciplines.
• Performing internal safety reviews and facilitating HAZOP reviews
• Proficient in reviewing process engineering calculations i.e. mass and energy balances, hydraulics, equipment sizing and ratings, relief calculations etc.
• Accountable for development and implementation of Project Quality Control and Assurance.
• Supporting Project Manager for achievement of project objectives (quality, time, budget) and defined expectations of the principal, by:

• Formation of a project team, in cooperation with resource providers.
• Understanding, negotiation and agreement to the expectations and key success factors of the project.
• Manage various contract types, (e.g. Lump Sum Turn Key, Lump Sum, Cost Reimbursable, Alliance and/or Incentive type of contractors).
• Control, direction and subsequent integration of various project parts.
• Effective project controls, results, re-alignment of plans and to inform the principal and other stakeholders of progress, intermediate results and (main potential) problems. If required PM is also responsible for corrective actions and Project Recovery Planning.
• Application of Value Enhancing Techniques in projects (e.g. Value Improvement Practices (VIP’s), Project Definition & Start Up work process (PDSU), Project Risk Assessment, etc), optimizing Front End loading, contributing to the Business Needs Memorandum

• Support to safeguard SHE & Security requirements within the project context by:

• Proper safety attitude adopted and carried by all project participants.
• Formulate and implement the Project SHE plan.
• Negotiation and finalizing agreements with public bodies.
• Organizing and effective project-site security and IP protection

• Jobholder identifies all relevant SHE and Security aspects and assesses the corresponding risks related to his/her job (e.g. use of machines, travelling, required training, ergonomics, SHE plans etc.); acts in such a way that the SHE and security impact on him/herself and others is minimized (e.g. following instructions/procedures, knowing location of fire extinguishers, good housekeeping etc.); reports and gives follow-up to any incidents (near misses, injuries, dangerous occurrences etc.).

• The Process Engineer has to balance and manage project economic-, technical- and technological complexity.

• Technical / Technology:

• Process Engineer should have adequate chemical process engineering background and experience to understand the contents of the project to be able to take adequate decisions.

• Organizational:

• Process Engineer will report to Project Engineering Manager which requires a good discipline skill.
• To be able to operate efficiently and with minimum delay within the client organization is a challenge.

• Job Execution:

• Perform process design and engineering practice together with BU’s technology group with quality engineering performance.
• Involved in contract negotiation, conflict resolution (e.g. claims, damages, etc) and contractor management, which can be very complex due to diversity of project stakeholders.
• To ensure safety health and environment and the correct attitude towards risks and safety is an important challenge.
• Social skill is required to communicate with stakeholders
• Support PEM to manage effective cost and progress control and to implement an adequate reporting structure.
• Assistant in commissioning, validation and start-up to support the start-up team. Prepare and handover the as built documents.
• As required has to act/use/maintain the Corporate requirements and practices
  

The Position

• Part of local engineering and project team to planning, execute, ensure adequate Ready to Operate. The execution of those LCP is done in such a way that project specific requirements and goals are met, whilst adhering to LCP Requirements and Practices, in a SHE and Security responsible manner, within the agreed project objectives (quality, time, budget, DSM requirements). Managing stakeholders and principal’s expectations. Management, guidance & control of EPC(M) contractor(s).
• Execute process engineer’s duty to achieve project objectives and defined expectations from project feasibility phase up to start-up of the plant.
• Depending on project size and timing, execution of multiple projects of various complexities, principals, and locations, can be within portfolio.
  

The Ideal

• Bachelor/ Master degree (or acting at M degree level by experience and prominence) in a technical science, e.g. (bio-) chemical engineering).
• High level of conceptual and analytical thinking.
• >10 years of process engineering experience, Design Institute/Engineering company/Chemical Company Engineering Dept. working experience.
• Good knowledge of relevant chemical (and/or pharmaceutical) processes.
• Good knowledge of Technology Transfer from R&D to Production work processes.
• Good knowledge of project optimization practices (e.g. workshop techniques etc)
• Good Knowledge of Large Capital Projects work processes, Value Improvement Practices and Manufex- work processes.
• Knowledge mechanical, electrical and instrumentation (sub)-systems.
• Knowledge of construction techniques and practices.
• Knowledge of project management techniques, practices and principles.
• Knowledge of contracting principles and the contracting process.
• Good knowledge of team dynamics and -motivators.
• Good social skills.
• Excellent understanding of regulatory requirements and corporate/client requirements.
