Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced Process Engineer to provide process support to production, equipment engineering, and maintenance teams for new and existing equipment/processes. Scope of support includes customer technical transfers, modifications to existing processes or adding new processes that will improve process safety, reduce plant operational costs, as well as improve product quality and efficiency. Provides expertise in diagnosing and correcting major operational problems.
Essential Functions:
Develops and makes recommendations for new process designs and/or modifications for assigned areas to ensure maximum operating efficiency, return on investment, safety, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Provides daily on the floor process engineering support to Production on operating problems, equipment performance, and material problems. Able to lead cross functional teams in root cause problem solving utilizing multiple methodologies to determine strong corrective and preventative actions to prevent reoccurrence of issues. Able to interface with operational and maintenance team members to aid in development of training documentation and programs to enhance the effectiveness of both teams in achieving site goals. Promotes a safe work environment for self, employees, and other personnel to reduce personnel and environmental health and safety (EH&S) risks. Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends to develop operational improvement opportunities. Supports the production, equipment engineer, and maintenance teams in keeping the production equipment operational by assisting in equipment reliability assessments, improvement kaizens, and operator/mechanic training enhancements. Utilizes lean manufacturing techniques to recommend process procedures and modifications to improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques and production yields for existing equipment and processes.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or physical science is required.
Experience:
One to four years of experience in Pharmaceutical Process Engineering and a working knowledge of chemical engineering, reliability engineering, instrumentation and/or general maintenance is highly preferred.
Equivalency:
Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.
Competencies:
Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are all essential communicates highly technical information and non-technical information to various levels of personnel throughout production, support areas and customers. Thorough understanding and working knowledge to apply multiple root cause analysis methodologies to drive out process variation. Must be creative and possess a high degree of personal motivation and result orientation. Must have a sound technical approach to problem solving with a high level of learning ability, plus excellent planning and organization skills. Must be able to learn and exhibit a thorough knowledge of the processes which he/she is assigned and ability to quickly learn new customer technical transfer products. Must be capable of managing multiple projects and leading cross functional teams to meet project milestones. Due to sensitive proprietary information encountered, must be able to keep this information confidential. Must be proficient with computer software packages, including Microsoft Windows based applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Project, Internet Explorer, etc.) as these packages are used routinely.
