We are looking to recruit 12 Month Industrial Placements & 8-12 week summer internships (to start summer 2022) in Process Engineering at our Macclesfield site in the UK.


Job description

The successful role holder will either work in Chemical Development, Oral Product Development or New Modalities and Parenterals Development as part of the Process Engineering group, responsible for application of new technologies and safe manufacturing scale up, leading to right first time campaigns.

The year long Industrial student placement will offer a mixture of drug development project work, this can include scale up calculations for mixing, filtration experiments, tablet manufacture, pilot plant accommodation work as an example. Alongside this, the student is usually offered the opportunity to lead a science and technology project with support from an experienced engineer.

The 8 to 12 week summer student projects are typically a science and technology project which will offer laboratory and project management experience.

Product Development

Product Development are responsible for the design and delivery of the drug product and the manufacturing process to produce it. We aim to design the best drug product for the patient, and optimise the manufacturing process. Product development is separated into 2 departments, which have different responsibilities; Oral Product Development is responsible for the development of any small molecule tablet or capsule based drug products, and New Modalities and Parenterals Development is responsible for the development of large molecule drug products, including injectables.

We offer both Industrial and Summer internship placements in either Oral Product Development or New Modalities and Parenterals Development, to work with the team and deliver the department's drug development and science and innovation projects.

Chemical Development

Chemical Development are responsible for the design and delivery of chemical manufacturing processes and controls that deliver active pharmaceutical ingredients for our medicines. We aim to define the best route, optimise the process and continue to support improvements through the life-cycle of a medicine.

We offer Industrial and Summer internship placements in our Process Engineering department, to work with the team and deliver the department's drug development and science and innovation projects.

Responsibilities of the role

  • Effectively plan project work

  • Communication of results and outcomes

  • Follow safe working procedures in a laboratory and pilot plant environment

  • Integrate with development teams

  • Contribute to process engineering technical area groups

Essential requirements

  • Be enrolled on an engineering degree with the opportunity to spend 1 year in industry from September 2022 or an 8-12 week internship in summer 2022

Desirable experience and attributes

Successful candidates should have some experience aligned to the attributes below:

  • Good teamwork skills.

  • Excellent analytical thinking and problem solving skills.

  • Strong communication (verbal and written) and influencing skills.

  • Good information management (recording of experimental and results).

  • Ability to use modelling packages e.g. MatLab, Aspen
