Job Title: Process Safety Specialist

Service Group/Unite: China Operations & Responsible Care

Reports to: Responsible Care Senior Manager, China O&RC

The Challenge

• He/she will provide all parts of DSM (in China) with access to the expertise in the assigned fields of process safety, through both hands-on services and development of competences in local organization. He/she shall take initiative to ensure that sufficient service is provided in order to maintain expertise level
• The Fields of Expertise are currently as follows not limited to: Risk assessment, Consequence Analysis, Process Safety Analysis, Human Factor, Reactive Chemistry Hazards, Machinery guidelines, ATEX
• He/ she will have contacts with Manufacturing Managers, SHE Managers and Engineers of the BG’s and sites of DSM (training, projects, advice, noticing the need for support, etc) in China.
• Furthermore, with colleagues in the process safety network Tier 2 and China Operations & Responsible Care to align and give feedback into standard and norm setting close the Improvement Circle.
  

The Position

Key areas of accountability/responsibility:

• Providing expert service (asked for by BG’s/sites/project teams in Greater China because of the specific knowledge/expertise).
• Providing basic knowledge via training on methodologies (purpose: roll out of methods and consistency in application)
• Spotting problems with implementation and local developments, judging their global relevance and giving feedback to Great China Regional Process Safety
• Challenge/act as second opinion on work performed by local teams and/or external experts (balance between cost and safety)
• Contribute to the maintenance and development (as required) of selected expertise areas
• Support process safety network in China (Tier 2)
• Jobholder identifies all relevant SHE and security aspects and assesses the corresponding risks related to his/her job (e.g. use of machines, traveling, required training, ergonomics, SHE plans etc.) acts in such a way that the SHE and security impact on him/herself and others is housekeeping etc.) reports and gives follow-up to any incidents (near misses, injuries, dangerous occurrences etc.)
  

Authorities:

• The Process Safety Specialist is fully authorized to the responsibilities that are listed under Job Content
• The financial authorities for the Process Safety Specialist are in general laid down in the management system in which he/she works.
  

The Ideal

• In depth knowledge of at least one of the mentioned expertise areas
• Familiarity with the DSM SHE and manufacturing requirements
• More than 7 years’ experience in manufacturing and/or projects
• Experience in at least some of the mentioned expertise Areas and in any event familiarity with conducting safety studies such as HAZOP (at least 2-3 years’ experience in HAZOP), LOPA, or QRA
• Experience of chairing multi-disciplinary teams with good communication skill
• Experience of training and coaching
• Process safety knowledge is must
• Chemical Process background is preferred
• Stakeholder management skill is a plus
