Job Description
Industrial Design Consultancy (www.idc.uk.com www.idc.cn.com) is a dynamic product development consultancy creating innovative designs for clients across the medical, industrial, transport and consumer sectors. With offices in the United Kingdom and China we have been credited with many internationally recognised awards such as Red Dot Best of the Best, iDea, Medical Design Excellence Award, APF, and Greendot.
We deliver the full package of product development services from user research, concept generation, ergonomic study, product styling, engineering design, testing, to transferring our work into production. Our team of product designers, engineers, model makers and project managers closely collaborate to not only reinforce our positive working culture but to ensure that we design commercial, technically robust and desirable products.
In response to the rapid growth in our business in China, we opened our first overseas office in the desirable downtown Luwan district of Shanghai, China. The design and engineering studio started small but already expects to have a dozen staff by summer 2012. It is an exciting time for IDC in China. The office is looking to expand and requires experienced product design engineers.
The role
This exciting role will provide many learning opportunities to compliment your experience by working for our large and varied client base. To support the design process from end to end and champion the design intent throughout, your activities would include:
• Creative technical idea generation based on preliminary research and sound engineering principles
• Detailed design from concept to production with high attention to detail
• 3D CAD modelling
• Managing prototype production and testing to prove out principles and production solutions
• Liaising with different manufacturers and suppliers to ensure solutions are easily transferred into production
• Interfacing with clients from report generation to demonstrating your production-ready solutions.
What we need from you
We are looking for technical problem solvers with inventive minds. You need to have tenacity and enthusiasm and have a keen, proactive, and flexible approach. We require the candidate to have:
• A Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design
• Preferably knowledge of Mandarin and experience working in China
• Creative problem solving with an aptitude for researching and applying different technologies
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes (for plastic/metal) and their design requirements
• Strong analytical and time management skills with attention to detail and quality
• Good presentation and communication skills
• Pro/E (Creo) or SolidWorks CAD skills, preferably with surfacing capabilities
