OVERVIEW:

The Product Development Manager will serve as the technical expert and leader for overall new products development projects. The position will interact with UK design team and Asian suppliers at a technical level and drive projects and solutions aligned with new product development strategies.

Key Activities include but not limited to, planning, overseeing product development, cost and production optimization, product risk management, cross-functional/supplier collaborating.

Additionally, we expect this product development manager to lead market research, industrial best practices, technical knowledge & skills to lead domain excellence, including but not limited to cost, technology, efficiency and process.

This role would usually be Dongguan-based, but may spend some time travelling within China even around Asian a regular basis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Development Strategy:

• Work with Owners to develop strategy and drive with the right KPIs and benchmarking
• Improving productivity, competitiveness and risk management
• Influencing business strategy with technology development plans

Leading Products Development:

• Leads new development projects from conception to implementation. Ensure highest standards by performance management, project goal setting, regular coaching and feedback.
• Planning, anticipating and driving development projects forward while coordinating key internal and external stakeholders, UK design team, sales, production suppliers.
• Review product design for risk management and compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer requirements, and manufacturing specifications.
• Work with project teams to avoid and solve challenges – including technical, team collaborating and supplier partnership.
• Oversee the review, creation and maintenance of engineering standards, processes and procedures. Emphasis will be placed on lowering costs, shortening cycle time, improving service ability and increasing quality standards.
• Maintain proper records, files and documentation in relation to technical drawings, materials quantification, reports, certification, approvals etc.,
• Site visits & site surveys to ensure the proper product construction and enhance communication and collaboration with suppliers.

Technical Solutions:

• Study, analyse and make recommendations for processes optimization, manufacturing efficiencies improvement, modernization and technological upgrading as needed
• Keep abreast of all relevant technical, application and product trends within the industry, incorporate up-dated external data and findings into analysis.
• Develop and deploy new materials/ innovative techniques/ innovative fittings and best practices
• Provide advice, consultation and training to the team members based on industry best practices to improve expertise
• Candidates with Furniture background are preferred

YOUR PROFILE

We expect you to have following background, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities

• Technical degree: wood engineer or furniture design preferred, other engineering degrees will be considered.
• Sound experiences with 5+ years in furniture products development or quality function, including 2+ years experiences on supervising/project management role. Less experience will be considered.
• Solid knowledge on the structure of the solid wood furniture, materials processes and production processes
• Solid knowledges on characters of various other materials (glasses, wood, steel, metal and packing) & conventional quality standards of furniture industry
• Solid Knowledge of drawing and revision control
• Thorough understanding of strategy, cost control, budgeting and other financial considerations
• Good IT/Software skills in MS office, Solidworks, Illustrator, and CAD
• Ability to leverage communication skills (verbal, written, illustrative) to influence concepts, inform others, promote positive relationships as well as to simplify complexity by using visualization and storytelling
• Practical problem solver with a creative & technical scheme. Able to work independently & effectively in a fast-paced organization with little supervision. Able to prepare, anticipate, prioritize, organize, and work on multiple projects simultaneously. Energetic, innovative, technical & result oriented and highly motivated.
