Job Description
Authority Authority to approve design changes, BOMs and drawings, deviations to the product or process; stop operations when the materials, processes, or assemblies are incorrect, Define validation plans for process and material changes Job Summary Provide technical leadership for direct support to product lines to ensure the products continue being manufactured without interruption with a primary focus on the customer needs. Will be also accountable for leading value engineering projects with cross-functional teams. This position will work closely with the Marketing department, Quality department, Production department, Materials, Manufacturing engineering and Sourcing departments, to manufacture the products in an organized and expedited fashion. Close collaboration with NPD Team to support on NPD projects and support to production lines is Key. Job Responsibilities Provides direct product support in analyzing and validating assembly activities and/or deviations ensuring product compliance with performance requirements, governing standards (UL, CSA, IEC, NEMA, etc.), test procedures and customer specifications. Maintain third-party certifications and fully resolve any non-conformances. Creates the risk assessment and defines mitigation actions for risk identified on any deviations needed. Supports design of products to address performance improvements; analyze and improve product design rules (assembly layout, material analysis and validation). Reviews material standards and determine new material options for cost reductions leading VAVE deliverables & resource leveling to achieve on time completion engineering tasks with quality Performs quality checks to ensure design meet Eaton and customer standards / requirements, Evaluates and enhances product performance margin to ensure product design robustness. Reviews and updates of Drawings, Bills of Materials and Internal specifications documenting, following and controlling design revisions using engineering change management. Conducts design reviews as well as the Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA) sessions to identify project risks and develop response plans. Performs tolerance analysis on system/components and leverage computer modeling & simulation tools to aid product design and performance activities. Utilizes statistical quality tools to analyze data to establish product baseline performance to identify focus areas and targets for improved product design robustness. Works with production department in the execution of cost reduction initiatives (VAVE). Provides technical leadership to component post-production development as per industry standards and prevailing engineering practices. Generates laboratory requests and analysis for Material/Electrical/Mechanical testing. Builds prototypes and models and develop test plans where necessary to validate product performance. Perform design-related testing in lab facilities. Works with Marketing to design and develop solutions to meet customer’s need and provides technical product information to customers Coordinates with both Queretaro and global cross-functional staff product design and development activities, including new ratings, features, and accessories for existing product platforms or new products. This will include interfacing with global design owners located at any ECPSD facility. Guide supporting production staff. Supports manufacturing and production testing and cooperate to investigate tooling, quality control, and production problems and recommend corrective action. Collaborates in pFMEA and with manufacturing process owners to understand fundamental capabilities and ensure that design specifications are met. Supports local and global sourcing/purchasing to evaluate, recommend, and develop relationships with suppliers. Evaluate material, supplier, and product design deviations or changes to provide the appropriate dispositions according to performance requirements. Establishes and maintain a collaborative working relationship with other areas. Defines and communicates critical-to-quality characteristics of product designs. Learn and utilize the Design for Six Sigma methodology. Leads trainees or technician and Mentors them, trains engineers and plant personnel as needed Leverages expertise strong system documentation and workflow knowledge to drive process improvement / continuous improvement efforts. #LI-SL4 Qualifications Qualifications Education level required: Bachelor´s degree in Mechanical (preferred), Electrical or Industrial Engineering. Years and area of experience required: 3-5 years as a product or design engineer. Technical knowledge: Experience and knowledge with electrical distrubution and installation equipment equipment (selection, installation, operation, design and testing) of electrical distribution and installation equipment. Knowledge on IEC and ANSI standards related to electrical products to design quality products. Responsiveness Should have strong understanding knowledge on quality, APQP & ISO systems; FMEA, PNCP, Capability Studies, ISO 9001. Strong knowledge of VAVE processes, tools and methodologies, drives VAVE efforts and achieves targets. Strong fundamentals in CAD and other visualization tools. Proficiency in one or more CAD tools; Preferably Creo Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, complimented with exceptional computer skills (English and Spanish language are mandatory). Technical Problem solving using any tool as of: A3, 5W,8D, FTA, Fishbone, core tools. GD&T knowledge and interpretation of blueprints or drawings and dimensional stack up analysis Design and Injection molding process (desirable) May supervise exempt personnel and/or non-exempt personnel. Knowledge on 6Sigma tools to product development process. DOE statistical analysis. Soft skills: Hard working ability and desire for excellence, Self-motivated with strong organizational and planning skills, Global travel, as required, for technical activities and training.
