Job Description
Eaton’s Bussmann division is currently seeking a SENIOR PRODUCT ENGINEER to join our team. This position is based at our Juarez facility. The Product Engineer is responsible for providing engineering support for Electrical products, ensuring the products are compliant to regulatory, agency, and customer requirements. The position will work within the manufacturing facility, and will interface with all functions within organization, including manufacturing, quality, marketing, supply chain, and end customers. The individual will champion and drive projects, of all levels and scope, from inception through production launch and also continue to support them throughout the product life cycle. The project types could be focused on quality, yield improvements, performance enhancements, product sustaining activities, cost out (VA/VE), and new product development projects. The work effort will be primarily directed at existing products as well as addressing issues with new/modified product opportunities In this role, you will: Redesign projects, which could involve quality & yield improvements, performance enhancements, cost out, customer-driven product modifications, and product sustaining issues. Provide senior level technical engineering support for products to marketing department, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, design engineering, suppliers (material and tooling), and end customers. Identify product opportunities and will be assigned projects that will require independent/non-directed work, including identifying and improving product designs with marginal/inconsistent product performance. Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure all product redesigns meet agency and customer, and test requirements. Employ rigorous problem-solving techniques, determining root cause and developing appropriate permanent corrective actions to develop and improve design and production solutions. Champion the evaluation of quality related performance issues of products. Test, verify, evaluate, and resolve issues in a timely manner to improve the product. Create reports to summarize the findings, resolution, and recommended actions. Utilize quality management system and six sigma tools, such as failure mode and effects analysis, control plans, design of experiments, and statistical analysis in developing robust engineering solutions. Compliant to Eaton’s Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements. Establish and coordinate the planning and execution of test sequences to verify and validate designs and processes for the product. Evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to complete new product and/or cost reduction projects. Translate customer wants/needs into feasible product design concepts, collaborating with the marketing, manufacturing, sales, and quality teams to develop, validate and launch products into the market. Plan and drive projects to conclusion meeting performance and cost objectives in a timely fashion, preparing print, specification, and analysis packages for final approval by group supervisor. Indirectly manages a multi-disciplinary project team, which is responsible for the development of new customized products. Responsible for planning, monitoring and controlling cost and schedule of project. Executes project planned activities as well as adjusting to unplanned circumstances. Project team will typically include members from engineering, product management/marketing, quality, manufacturing engineering, plant operations, and sales. Select materials and manufacturing processes for new products, working with sourcing, quality, suppliers, and manufacturing team to ensure new products can be economically manufactured, while supporting product goal alignment with Eaton’s operational priorities of safety, quality, delivery, cost and inventory. Coordinate with plant production team to execute production trial runs to create product prototypes required for customer evaluations, product verification testing and process validation. Report and present project progress throughout the lifecycle of the project to all levels of the organization. Generate and review ECN’s for product design issues and NPI. Comply with the procedures, work instructions and work regulations of the different management systems (ISO9001, ISO14001, IATF16946, CTPAT, AEO and those that the company registers) Incumbent in accordance with the established manuals and ensure compliance with legal records, quality, environmental, health and safety regulations, AEO, CTPAT, etc. They fall within the company. #LI-AR7 Qualifications Required Competencies: Bachelor’s degree in electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or related field. Five to ten years of experience in electrical/automotive manufacturing environment, directly involved in the production processes and support with customer interactions. Familiarity with lATF16949, (ISO/TS 16949) and regulatory agency requirements, such UL, CSA, and CCC. Ability to analyze a product performance issue, determine the root cause of the issue, and implement effective countermeasures. Knowledge of and experience with AIAG Core Tools, (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC). Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, SAP, 3D CAD modeling tools, and Minitab. Knowledge in the design of components with varied manufacturing processes including: injection molding, stamping, machining and high volume assembly processes. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to effectively motivate team members that are not direct reports. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred Competencies: Six Sigma Green Belt Knowledge of electrical circuit protection products, electrical distribution systems, and applicable industry standards.
