Job Description

A Powertrain Engineering intern in Product Engineering helps to support the achievement of targets for quality and timing.  They complete moderately complex tasks in a production and product engineering environment, applying existing experience and learning new and valuable skills.  They work semi-independently under the guidance of one launch leader to support analysis of problems, development, validation and implementation of solutions, and collect necessary data to confirm solution effectiveness.

The qualified intern should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:

  • Provide support on the integration for new 8-cyl gas engine into the engine-preassembly
  • Provide support on the integration for new 6-cyl diesel engine into the engine-preassembly
  • Work to develop a series analysis of HV cable routings
  • Helps to support current engineering tasks, quality assurance, design engineering, analysis and validation, process improvement initiatives, as well as assist in ongoing workflows
  • Provides supports to the Launch Leader in the achievement of agreed upon process chain targets 
  • Will work to support the design and release of components within the modules through 3-D model analyses, prototype development and production, and testing and validation on fixtures as well as on customer cars
  • Develops a network to the Center of Competence and to plant process partners in support of assigned activities
  • Supports the development of solutions to highly complex or (un)usual technical problems which require regular use of ingenuity and innovation
  • Can expect to prepare presentations on solutions, as well as present data and results in Module or management rounds.
  • Understands and implements VPS (Value Added Production System) Principles and concepts of Standard Work and Problem Solving

  • Degree pursuit in Bachelor of Science or higher for Mechanical Engineering or related degree
  • Successful completion of previous internship/working student assignment in a bi-lingual environemt within the BMW group (3-month period minimum)
  • Current enrollment in Master program outside of the US or enrolled in the last semester of a Bachelor program outside of the US.
  • Equivalent of 3.0 GPA.
  • Must provide the following paperwork in English:

  • The work term dates for this postion are March 14 2022 through September 12 2022
