As part of our Product & Marketing department, we are looking for a Product & Sales Technical Manager to ensure the optimum product position of the Mercedes-Benz and FUSO truck product range in the competitive market. To lead and be an integral part of a team to provide full product management, pre-sales technical and legislative consultancy to customers, dealers, body builders, official agencies (incl. Government, Law Enforcement and Industry bodies) and equipment suppliers with regard to all relevant models in the Daimler Truck product range in UK.
More about the role
You will be responsible for managing all technical and legal aspects of the relevant product lines, providing technical support to both internal and external stakeholders. You will take overall responsibility for the Truck national type’s database, ensuring that it is fully maintained and that the department’s obligations are fully discharged. You will maintain regular communication with relevant Truck departments to ensure the database accuracy reflects the needs of the Company and market. You will be expected to provide specialist technical support to the UK Bodybuilding Industry and Specialist equipment suppliers, including the update and distribution of bulletins and computer based information maintained within the department. You will review and influence Daimler AG product amendments and changes to ensure continued conformity with legislation and UK market technical/performance requirements. You will need to liaise with the factories to ensure that the requirements of the UK market are met. You will develop strong working relationships with Daimler AG contacts to ensure collaborative working relationship and attend relevant Product meetings overseas as and when required. You will ensure relevant market analysis and research is undertaken to identify market trends and product opportunities., supporting the Product Managers in the development and implementation of tactical product actions to maximise the product or market opportunities.
About you
Alongside experience within a similar role you’ll have:
- Theoretical and practical experience in the design, construction and application of Commercial Vehicles with particular reference to vehicle modifications, body mounting, current and future legislation
- Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or related automotive subject
- Proven experience within a commercial, ‘customer’ facing environment
- Educated to Degree level or equivalent
- Proven ability to influence and negotiate at all stakeholder levels
- Excellent numeracy and communication skills
- Comprehensive Truck product knowledge including competitive market
- Excellent IT skills are essential
- LCV license holder would be advantageous
- Membership of a relevant professional institution such as IMechE required
- A comprehensive understanding of vehicle manufacturer operations
