Technical Writer
Location: US - Remote

We are working with governments, agencies, industry partners and researchers globally to ensure priority access to instruments, consumables, safety supplies and other products to address the outbreak. This key role will play a valuable part in our efforts.
How will you make an impact?
In this role, you will be a part of our in-house, full-service branding and creative agency within one of the world’s largest life science companies. We are seeking a strong technical copywriter with an advanced life science background and an ability to translate and distill complex technical content into meaningful marketing copy.
The Technical Writer performs multichannel scientific writing, substantive editing, copy editing, and proofreading/quality control of scientific and technical marketing communications, including white papers and application notes, handbooks, and product bulletins, as well as technical sales fliers and brochures. The Technical Writer also helps ensure the scientific and technical accuracy of content, and provides guidance and mentoring to both technical writers (and creative writers without a scientific background). This position handles technical writing for a high volume of these types of pieces under short timelines.
Please note: This position does NOT involve writing technical manuals, specification documents, or instructional materials.
Local candidates to Carlsbad, CA, preferred, but we are open to considering remote work possibilities for qualified candidates from other areas of the country.
What will you do?
• Develop, revise, and proofread scientific and technical content that meets the needs of the target audience, is accurate, clear, and concise, and follows relevant best practices and brand guidelines
• Help ensure the scientific and technical accuracy of technical and marketing communications
• Ensure proper usage of brand, voice, and style, as well as organization, grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation
• Apply best practices in scientific/technical/ marketing writing to suggest and organize content, and, if appropriate, plan page layouts
• Perform fact checking as needed
• Serve as technical subject matter expert within the writing team (and The Agency)
• Maintain awareness of customer and industry trends and other data affecting best practices for content, layout, and delivery
• Excellent collaboration and customer service skills
• Preference for and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Proactively identify and suggest improvements to processes and deliverables
• Actively pursue professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in scientific/technical/marketing communications
• Work under minimal supervision with project teams or other internal customers to complete work
• Assist in training new writing team members on various duties including, but not limited to, style and scientific nomenclature and accuracy
• May be required to perform other related duties as required and/or assigned
How will you get there?
Education:
Master’s degree in the life sciences. PhD strongly preferred, as well as 2+ years of scientific writing experience.
Experience:
• Generally 2+ years of scientific writing experience
• Proficient to thorough understanding of scientific and technical content
• Exceptional copy editing and proofreading skills
• Keen attention to detail, high regard for quality, and excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Sophisticated knowledge of English usage (grammar, spelling, punctuation, language usage, audience sensitivity)
• Effectively adapt structure, tone, and style to meet objectives, as well as apply house style guidelines
• Ability to develop content that is accurate, clear, concise, and meets the needs of the target audience
• Ability to work on multiple short- and long-term projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
• Strong relationship management, project management, and critical thinking skills
• Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InCopy, and Microsoft Office Suite
• Customer-centric and keenly aware of markets, trends, and competitors
• Knowledge of the biotech industry and competitors
• Familiarity with the CSE Manual of Scientific Style and format, and advanced knowledge of Chicago style
