Eaton Industries (Canada) Company has an opening for a full-time permanent Production Manager in our National Distribution Center in Perth, Ontario.
Primary Functions:
This position is responsible for the supervising hourly employees to deliver excellence to our customers and meet assigned deadlines. The Production Manager will ensure that the Modification Centre (“Mod Shop”) is managed in an efficient and safe manner and will have interaction at all levels of the organization, including external customers. This individual will provide coaching and direction to their team, while driving accountability in the business; ultimately leading the organization to achieve its business level and strategic goals.
In this role you will:
People Management:
(a) Manage the manufacturing employees involved in the assembly process including performance, absenteeism and vacations.
(b) Coordinate shop employees to ensure customers' orders receive the correct priorities.
(c) Monitor employee performance & conduct regular performance reviews.
(d) Act on employee suggestions/concerns. Provide employee recognition.
(e) Provide backup for other Managers when necessary.
(f) Train employees with regards to safety, company policies and ISO 9001 procedures.
(g) Motivate and coach employees to maintain high levels of satisfaction, productivity and quality through effectively utilizing available rewards and recognition channels.
Process Development:
(a) Attend and participate in review meetings with Marketing and Materials departments.
(b) Adjust manpower based on forecast requirements
(c) Collaborate with Marketing, Materials, Sales, Production and Engineering personnel.
(d) Aid in identifying, evaluating, and resolving human relations and work performance problems within department to facilitate communication and improve employee human relation skills and work performance.
(e) Proactively implement, promote and maintain a safe working environment through diligence in accident prevention, investigation, equipment maintenance and rule enforcement.
(f) Drive activities to reduce scrap, rework and overtime cost while meeting quality objectives.
Project Management:
(a) Develop schedule a capacity plan to support production plan.
(b) Authorize job site visits, repairs and employee expense reports.
(c) Provide feedback to Marketing / Engineering regarding product cost & quality.
(d) Assist in identifying and recognizing cost improvements.
(e) Conduct regular workplace meetings.
(f) Establish quality objectives and evaluate performance in conjunction with quality assurance.
(g) Take proactive action to ensure compliance with safety legislative requirements.
(h) Maintain safe tools, equipment and work areas.
(i) Approve and assign overtime as required.
(j) Implement Lean manufacturing/Continuous Improvement Framework (CIF) at a departmental level using lean tools and philosophies.
(k) Conduct process checks within areas of responsibility and monitor performance to establish standard work formats.
Employee Relations:
(a) Communicate with administrative, plant and supervisory staff as required.
(b) Perform overtime as necessary in accordance with both policy and legislative requirements.
(c) Comply with Eaton’s Ethics and Harassment Policies.
(d) Provide and/or participate in training as required.
(e) Comply with company rules and policies, and regulations, as stated in the Employee Handbook.
(f) Act as team player and participate in department and/or plant committees.
Occupational Health and Safety
(a) Work in compliance with the Act and regulations [section 28(1)(a)];
(b) Use or wear any equipment, protective devices or clothing required by the employer [section 28(1)(b)];
(c) Report to the employer or supervisor any known missing or defective equipment or protective device that may be dangerous [section 28(1)(c)];
(d) Report any known workplace hazard to the employer or supervisor [section 28(1)(d)];
(e) Report any known contravention of the Act or regulations to the employer or supervisor [section 28(1)(d)];
(f) not remove or make ineffective any protective device required by the employer or by the regulations [section 28(2)(a)]; [ 6 ]
(g) Not use or operate any equipment or work in a way that may endanger any worker [section 28(2)(b)]; and
(h) Not engage in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct [section 28(2)(c)]. Racing powered hand trucks in a warehouse or seeing who can pick up the most boxes are examples of unsafe and unacceptable workplace conduct.
Operational Excellence
(a) Report any deficiencies in systems, facilities, machinery, equipment and/or tools immediately to your manager.
(b) Record and/or report product damage/nonconformities to your manager as required.
(c) Comply with EQMS (Eaton Quality Management System) policies and procedures.
(d) Participate and contribute to continuous improvement (Eaton Lean System).
(e) Comply with ISO 9001 policies and procedures.
(f) Lead EBE (Eaton Business Excellence) initiatives.
(g) Support strategic initiatives to strengthen the application of Eaton’s values
(l) Implement Lean manufacturing/Continuous Improvement Framework (CIF) at a departmental level using lean tools and philosophies.
(h) At a departmental level, using lean tools and philosophies:
1. Identify/implement improvements to department. workstations and layouts
2. Implement setup reduction
3. Identify/implement cost improvements to the manufacturing processes
4. Establish continuous flow of production lines
5. Reduce material handling
6. Improve overall product manufacturing efficiency and quality
7. Maintain Lean awareness through visual and verbal communication
8. Coordinate with Lean Champions in a continuous effort to sustain Lean progress

Qualifications
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
- College Graduate – 2 years in Electrical/ Manufacturing or Business
- Minimum four (4) Supervisory experience and at least two years in a manufacturing assembly environment.
- Minimum three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing assembly environment.
- Must be authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship now or in the future.
- No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates residing within 80 kilometers of Perth, ON, Canada facility will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
- University Degree from and accredited institution
- Experience in Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma certification and Continuous Improvement techniques (preferred).
