Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (Art History and Theory) (PR0056/20-21)
Founded in 2005, the Academy of Visual Arts (AVA) is the first of its kind in Hong Kong. The Academy is committed to providing the best visual arts education to meet the needs of the cultural and creative industries in the region. In the eventful years since its foundation, the Academy has grown and developed rapidly, building an international teaching team and developing multi-faceted, interactive programmes based on an advanced and adaptive interdisciplinary curriculum.
The position is affiliated to the Visual Art Studies (VAS) Division of the Academy, which offers art history and theory courses across all the Academy’s programmes and supports studio practice and the development of critical and creative thinking to students at all levels (undergraduate, taught postgraduate and research degree), including providing courses for the university GE programme of study.
The Academy invites applications from candidates with outstanding achievement in teaching, research and professional experience. The appointee is expected to teach art history and art theory courses, with a focus on western art, Asian art or design history. Additionally, he/she should have good knowledge of the contemporary visual arts scene internationally, and familiarity with the broader issues and trends in inter-disciplinary educational field.
Applicants should have a relevant doctoral degree, a strong record in academic research in the above and/or other related areas appropriate for the rank applied for, and accumulated academic teaching experience.
Initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of two to three years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
