Applications are invited for appointment as Professor (Teaching)/Associate Professor (Teaching) in the Enrichment Year Office of the LKS Faculty of Medicine (Ref.: 494012), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal.

Learning beyond Hong Kong, tackling novel situations and advocacy for the improvement of human conditions are some of the key features of undergraduate education at HKU. A reform of the medical curriculum which includes value-added options and flexibility to medical students to encourage their pursuit in scientific inquiry and participation in experiential learning was launched in 2016. The Enrichment Year is a year-long total learning experience for MBBS III students, with its first outgoing cohort in the academic year 2018-2019. It signifies an important milestone of the Faculty’s pioneering role in training future medical doctors. Medical students are given a greater latitude to tailor-make their local or overseas learning programmes under one of the following categories in each semester: i) Research attachment; ii) Service learning/humanitarian work; and/or iii) intercalation. A new Enrichment Year Office (EYO) has been established within the Medical Faculty, which is tasked to facilitate, promote and monitor all teaching and learning activities related to the Enrichment Year, working with members of the Faculty, institutional and community partners (both in and outside Hong Kong).

Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Medical Science, Healthcare Education or a related field. They should have sustained, exceptional contributions to, and accomplishments in, teaching excellence and the scholarship of teaching, as well as internal and external recognition of teaching excellence evidenced by receipt of teaching excellence awards and teaching grants. They should also have a strong commitment to international/community networking and an established record of leading, innovating and advocating teaching and learning projects. Those with clinically trained background will be considered favourably.

The appointee will oversee the Enrichment Year curriculum, programme operations and delivery, quality assurance, and contribute to the overall teaching effectiveness and innovation, curriculum and pedagogical development of the Enrichment Year. He/She will teach and supervise students for the Enrichment Year, and is expected to be active in networking with university institutions, social service organizations, industry partners and social entrepreneurs, etc. to create placement opportunities for students. In addition, he/she will provide guidance to academic advisers and mentors.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
