Job Description

The role of Program Director

(Please note we will consider appointing a Deputy Program Director for candidates with less experience in either HIV or related social welfare issues)

AIDS Concern has two Program Directors responsible for all of our service programs, reporting to the Chief Executive. The role we are recruiting to is one of those two Program Directors and will be responsible for our heterosexual men’s program, ethnic minority program, youth program and advocacy.

The new Program Director will work alongside the existing Program Director, reporting into our Chief Executive and will be one of the management team members.

The Director will develop and implement AIDS Concern’s program strategy for education and advocacy in line with the agency’s Triple Zero vision. Through our promotion and education programs AIDS Concern aims to increase community action on safer sex and to build public awareness in HIV prevention, eliminating misunderstanding and stigma about HIV. 

The position is responsible for line managing 3 staff teams and a substantial budget. The key responsibilities will include overseeing program design, project planning, budgeting, monitoring and implementation, and subsequent follow-up action by our Program Team. The successful candidate will also be responsible for daily operations of the teams to ensure effective execution of agreed projects in a timely and quality manner, leading and coaching the teams to generate new initiatives that enhance and advance our services to the community.

He/she will also work closely with our other Program Director to secure prompt and proper referral to our testing and counselling team for follow-up.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone with a close match to the following:

  • A background in social work, social sciences, counselling, or education
  • At least 6-8 years’ experience in providing services to diverse communities
  • At least 4-years’ managerial experience, with people management, project planning, budgeting and implementation
  • Genuine interest in developing a long-term career with NGO and serving the community with minority interest
  • Knowledge about HIV / LGBT issues would be a definite advantage
  • Passion to work for the benefit of minority groups
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills to build and enhance teamwork and develop team members
  • Open minded and willingness to accept new initiatives
  • Strong communication ability to build relationships with colleagues across AIDS Concern and other parties outside the organization
