The Sr Manager of Program & Portfolio Management is part of the commercial organization supporting the Biosciences Division portfolio which includes reagents, instruments, and consumables from across the division’s six business units: Molecular Biology; Protein and Cell Analysis; Antibodies and Immunoassays; Synthetic Biology; Sample Preparation; and Cell Biology. This role will reside in Bothell, WA.
 
Bothell is home of the EVOS® line of fully integrated all-in-one digital inverted microscope and High Content Analysis imaging instrumentation. The site is concept-to-completion, designing, developing and manufacturing optical equipment for the life sciences market, including research and diagnostic laboratories.
 
How will you make an impact?
Sr. Manager’s responsibility is two-fold. The responsibilities will include the following:  Demonstrate the best practices of Program Management leading New-Product Introduction (NPI) programs for the Cell Analysis Instrument segment. Drive the process to develop strategy & annual plan for the R&D portfolio.
 
What will you do?
Portfolio Management:

 

  • Partners with Business Unit (BU) product management, R&D, marketing & finance leadership to develop the BU strategy & annual plan, with respect to R&D utilization. Leads regular review of the portfolio with BU leadership team, drives prioritization, status updates and revenue reporting for all BU New-Product-Introduction (NPI) programs. Facilitates creation and implementation of an NPI portfolio roadmap, aligned with BU strategy.

  • Leads regular review of NPI portfolio with BU leadership team, drives prioritization and reports on status & revenue of all BU NPI programs.

  • Sits on BU leadership team and contributes to divisional monthly business reviews (MBR) to represent Portfolio & Program Management (PPM) organization.

  • Represents PPM on BU NPI steering committee, also known as the Product Approval Committee (PAC).

Program Management:

  • Leads critical BU NPI programs from initiation through commercial launch, with the goal of not only delivering products of high quality and value to the organization, but also of delivering them within agreed-upon schedule, resources, budget and scope.

  • Acts as program champion and head of a cross-functional team; develops bottoms-up plans and proactively manages program risks, in order to successfully deliver all program deliverables. Solves problems and manages crises effectively and independently. Acts as information conduit between core team and leadership; prepares and presents program reviews to PAC as core team leader.

  • Mentors others leading programs in the BU, providing them with high-level BU context & guidance.

  • Provides feedback to drive NPI process improvements. Sponsors change initiatives & builds best practices regarding program management & product development in the BU.

How will you get here?
Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or Master’s  degree in Engineering, Bioengineering, Life Sciences, or similar discipline.

  • 10 or more years of combined product development and project management experience, of which a portion must be in the life sciences industry.

Preferable Skills and Attributes:

  • Fluent English.

  • Work is performed without significant direction and is able to recommend modifications to overall direction of portfolio or program in order to meet BU goals.

  • Works on complex, multi-faceted problems where analysis may require in depth analysis, as well as imagination.

  • Interacts and builds effective relationships with core and extended team members, functional managers, senior management, and customers.

  • Preferred experience with program management of instrumentation and background in system engineering.

  • Able to influence others, gain acceptance in sensitive situations and resolve conflict.

  • Develops and delivers original persuasive presentations to larger groups.

  • Gathers feedback on processes and drives practical improvements.
