Among the pillars of strategic plan, UNICEF China supports the Government of China to ensure a safe and clean environment in rural and urban communities that reach the most vulnerable children at home, child centers/education institutions and health care facilities. It works with the government to support the planning of most effective interventions of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and facilitate the efficient implementation of them through an integrated community approach in order to achieve total sanitation. It aims to establish a model which can be scaled up to benefit as many children as possible through sharing experience and best practice and learning events and improving policies and practices, developing guidelines and tools, and strengthening capacities of government staff and community-based practitioners. It also engages with private companies to explore suitable technologies and systems to make WASH solutions climate resilient.

How can you make a difference?

We are seeking a talented professional to build a strong water, sanitation and hygiene programme team for the planning, implementing, monitoring, documenting, disseminating results, advocating for policy improvement to scale up, innovating new approaches, skills and technologies for sustainable development. Specifically, you will:

  • Manage the implementation of the WASH in Schools project and the WASH in Health Care Facilities project in consultation with colleagues under the supervision of your supervisor
  • Monitor implementation of designed activities in the workplans at both the policy outcome and the local project activity outputs
  • Lead knowledge management of the project, including documentation of good practices, development of human interest stories and case studies.
  • Manage partnership with support from supervisor and other team members locally including government, technical institutions, private sectors and likely local NGOs in order to conduct activities efficiently and effectively
  • Document project implementation progress and results and draft high quality reports as scheduled and update to supervisor regularly
  • Identify areas that needs attention for the development of WASH in schools and WASH in Health Care Facilities and propose new initiatives and activities
  • Keep global initiatives and scientific evidence up to date in WASH and toilet revolution
  • Support the whole team's initiative in social communication and advocacy campaign on toilet revolution
  • Support the supervisor in sanitation marketing initiative
  • Support other team members when necessary

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Advanced university degree (master) in civil engineering, WASH, behavior change communication, public health, nutrition.
  • Previous work experience in WASH a requirement. Experience with implementing institutional WASH, toilet revolution and greening project an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development theory and development issues and policies in China and internationally
  • Strong organizational skills to promote smooth project management
  • Easy going and good in networking
  • Fluency in English and Mandarin, both written and spoken
  • Knowledge of inter-personal communication tools and practices and meeting presentation skills are an advantage
