Job Description

ACADEMY OF VISUAL ARTS

Post associated with a teaching and learning project on Chinese art and artefacts in Chinese cultural heritage

The appointee is expected to be dedicated to assist in the production of a documentation on previous works and preparation of teaching materials in Chinese material culture (e.g. artworks and artefacts) from an art practitioner and science perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with supervisor and other team member(s) in the preparation of course teaching materials and documentation of previous workshop materials
  • Assist in conducting literature reviews and research for teaching purposes
  • Assist in the preparation of editing video(s), and preparing teaching materials (ppt, notes, and bibliography) and handouts
  • Collect project data for supervisor/ project team

Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by individual researchers. Quarterly work requirements and schedules must be discussed with the Supervisor to ensure that the work priorities can be accomplished in the work hours scheduled for the quarter (for a normal half-time appointment). Concerns about any additional responsibilities should be discussed first with the supervisor (faculty researcher), and then the Graduate Program Committee Chair or the Academy Chair.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate qualification in Fine Art or BA (Visual Arts)/ Art History, preferably with sub-discipline knowledge of Chinese art history and some material science knowledge
  • Strong interest and involvement in cultural heritage/ Chinese art history
  • Exposure to applicable computer technologies, including on-line teaching and image editing, data visualization and statistical analysis tools, e.g. Photoshops, Moodle, Future Learn, excel, webpage design software, etc
  • Excellent written English and Chinese language required
  • Good at conducting research independently

Preferred Attributes

  • Attention to details
  • Fast Chinese data input
  • Some experience in provenance, context research
  • An understanding and competence in global heritage issues and art practices
  • Experience in material sourcing and technical applications to casting

Candidates with more experience will be considered for the post of Project Officer.

Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of six months

Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
