Purpose of the Position:

Enables new technology development and improvement. Serves as a technical expert in field. Develops, modifies and designs materials and processes using advanced and complex methodologies. Uses advanced and robust methods to solve complex problems to advance new business development or troubleshoot existing engineering/manufacturing problems. Develops and validates reliable technical tools to anticipate new technology development and technical challenges in existing and new business.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

• Provides expertise to other scientists to develop measures to test properties.
• Designs and executes experiments to solve complex problems or develop new processes or products.
• Leverages fundamental understanding to develop tools and concepts in anticipation of future state of technology for the business.
• Provides troubleshooting support or testing for businesses that do not have the capability.
• Modifies and develops testing processes to improve evaluation of new materials and new properties.
• Provides complex problem-solving support to customers.
• Makes technical presentations to customers and at conferences.
• Collaborates with other departments and businesses to develop new materials or improve processes.
• Supports or leads technology transfer to Development receiver

Project involved with:

• Establish requirements with customer(s). Understand nature of the business requirements for each project.
• Establish overall project plans (scope, schedule, cost estimates, project acceptance criteria, procurement/contracting strategy, risk management, etc).
• Assist in project evaluation and justification. Work with the business in the preparation of Appropriation Requests (A/R).
• Establish roles, responsibilities and competencies required for the project. Build an effective project team utilizing internal and external personnel resources with the ability to operate and supervise matrixed organizations. Establish receivership requirements for project.

• Conduct project meetings and document key issues, action items and decisions. Communicate and provide guidance to project team members (Engineering/Manufacturing) based on organizational goals and company policy.
• Provide periodic project updates to customer(s) and management. Communicate project goals, objectives, key status information and overall impact of the project effectively with project team members.
• Effectively implement all phases of project methodologies to include appropriate initiation, planning, implementation and control, and close-out elements.
• Regularly and effectively communicate and update project key issues, status of completion and financial forecasts with project customers, senior management sponsors and senior management steering teams.
• Actively coach and develop individuals on project team. Project team member assignments established with individual competency development as objective. Provide recognition to project and customer team members.
• Share expertise and knowledge to foster continuous improvement of the organization (project team or functional unit).

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or above of Manufacturing Engineering / Mechanical Engineering
• At least 5 years relevant project management experience in plastic and tooling fabrication, injection molding and product design.

Required Skills

• Thorough understanding product design, raw material, and mold related
• Track record of delivering results within cost and schedule with close and timely communications with the internal Customer.
• Track record of engineering accomplishment. Recognized as a technical leader /subject matter.
• Proficient in Project Management skills and methodologies inclusive of Scope Development, Scheduling, Cost & Budget Management, Quality Management, and Risk Management.
• Knowledge of MS Project or other Project scheduling tools.
• Good English communication skills (verbal and written)

Desired Skills

• Understand injection molding and 2nd operation process.
• M.S. or equivalent technical degree. Business understanding & training highly recommended.
• Variety of research, development, engineering, operational, and / or plant experiences.
• Project Team focused on single or multiple technical discipline of increased complexity.
• External recognition such as Green / Yellow / Black Belt, Lean, PMI, Professional Engineering or Committee member of a Technical society.
