Job Role Details

The Enabling Units IT Programme Delivery team builds, develops, deploys and integrates technology solutions – on time and budget, to the highest quality standards and against AstraZeneca’s business strategy. Join us and you can work across our pioneering activities, as well as a raft of business functions. As a leader of projects, you’ll be part of a passionate and expert team of IT professionals that harnesses agile delivery, adheres to our right-first-time principles and makes ‘the best’ the benchmark.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Portfolio and Project Manager with solid experience of managing both projects and a team of project managers to plan, mobilize, manage, and deliver transformational IT projects. Delivering a portfolio of projects requires people with diverse skill sets covering project management, technical, analytical, service management, business partnering and business analysis skills, all combined with excellent communication skills. Our projects deploy a range of technologies including internal custom build solutions, packaged software, ERP solutions, data warehouses, Software as a Service, Cloud based solutions and BI tools.


 

Key Skills & Capabilities

The GTC Programme Delivery Lead will not only manage their own projects but will lead a small team of project managers delivering business and transformation projects in the Enabling business domains, and will need to ensure that true business value is delivered to the customer. The Team Lead has a relentless drive for delivery, with a strong customer focus as well as passion for leading and developing individuals and the AZ PM community.

The role will involve time dedicated to hands on project management (approximately 60%), leading a project team from initiation to close, to deliver effective solutions that meet approved customer and business needs.  Project Managers are accountable for determining and delivering solutions to approved budget and schedule commitments whilst meeting required quality and compliance standards.  Focus areas include risk management and delivery of business benefit.  This role is also required to follow established project management standards and contribute to continued development of the project management capability.

The individual must also align closely with other leaders in Programme Delivery and the broader business relationship managers to plan and forecast upcoming demand, influencing the shaping of projects and effective capacity planning to ensure skilled and available resources are assigned to assure successful delivery. As well as line management of a number of project management resources, this role will be required to coach and mentor junior project managers in the team and to drive engagement and development of the project management capability within Enabling Units IT.

In both aspects of the role, excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, as well as a delivery focus are strongly required.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Technical or Business Degree or relevant proven experience, Project Management and Agile certifications preferred
  • Agree and deliver plans for projects / programmes (or contribution in part to a larger project), including activities, resources, costs, roles, responsibilities and quality as defined in the IT Project Management Methodology (ADF).
  • Manage project / programme budgets, forecasts, tasks, schedules, risks, change management, and status to support effective decisions and project reporting to stakeholders and review boards.  Coordinate status and delivery of project workstreams.  Identify / manage dependencies between projects (intra-program and across portfolio).
  • Assure / develop service transition plans to ensure project delivered solutions are sustainable within a BAU operations environment, including controlled hand-over into operational support.
  • Manage relationships with key business stakeholders to ensure the effective capturing of business requirements and commitment to project/program objectives.  Responsible for steering / stakeholder meetings, communication of status, issues, risks.
  • Ensure effective risks & issues management processes are in place and effectively used.  Resolve problems and escalate as appropriate.
  • Build a cohesive project team and provide the leadership necessary to maximize the team’s success.  Provide individual coaching and development of team members as needed.
  • Manage changes to project/programme scope, ensuring that all impacts and changes are approved and appropriately communicated to stakeholders and review boards.
  • Develop service transition plans including controlled hand-over into support and maintenance.
  • Ensure the project team adheres to all standards including ADF, quality, and compliance, as well as processes, defined technical capabilities, and best practices.  Establish program governance and lead Decision Point reviews; member Steering Committee.
  • Ensure expected benefits realization is consistent with project deliverables and clearly understood by stakeholders and project team.
  • Support continued development of a world-class centre of excellence for project management capabilities and ensure that best practice is adopted and reinforced.
  • Proven track record in managing teams of project managers who are delivering small to medium sized projects
  • Proven experience of line management and team leadership, capability to be part of Programme Delivery Leadership Team.
  • Proven experience of portfolio management, resource / capacity management, governance and early shaping of opportunities in to projects
  • Ability to build cohesive teams and provide the leadership necessary to maximize success. 
  • Experience of working with 3rd party suppliers as well as internal delivery teams
  • Excellent relationship management, influencing skills and ability to interact with senior leaders
  • Experience working in global organization and across cultural boundaries
  • Good communication skills (both oral and written) and facilitation skills with the ability to work with others to achieve objectives.
  • The ability to travel internationally when required
  • A self-starter with high levels of drive, energy, resilience, sense of ownership and enterprise leadership to deliver high quality solutions that solve business problems
  • Experience of working in enabling business domains such as HR, Finance, Legal, Compliance and Audit.
  • Experience of a range of technologies (not all but possibly: SAP, SOA, BI Solutions, Datawarehouse solutions, Finance solutions, Hyperion, Workday, Saba, SalesForce.Com, Veeva,  other enterprise level packaged software that supports business processes in Finance, Legal, HR, Compliance, Corporate Affairs)
