PROJECT MANAGER, EVOLVING FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (L5) 

What you will do 

Amgen is seeking a Project Manager to support the Evolving Financial Management initiative. The focus of this initiative is to drive an ambitious program to evolve how Amgen does financial management by driving end-to-end connectivity and increased automation from contracting and buying to the accounting close and forecasting processes Within scope is 1) defining and setting a vision for a continuous close capability along with moving from a quarterly to a monthly close cycle by Q1 ’23, 2) standardizing the buying process globally in a way that enables a highly automated, continuous accounting close with a secondary focus on reducing time and effort for staff involved in buying at Amgen​, 3) installing a contract lifecycle management system to better manage contract meta data and contract compliance with our suppliers while enabling downstream connectivity to the buying process​ and 4) evolving forecasting / planning from batch to continuous processes via redesigning large batch processes (e.g., sales forecast to COGS forecast, clinical study forecasting), leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities and utilizing continuous close insights​.  This new role will report to the Executive Director of Evolving Financial Management under the broader umbrella of Predictive Real-time Sensing.   

The location of this role is flexible but is likely to require frequent interactions with the teams based in California and Florida. 

Responsibilities: 

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities: 

  • Create and manage a comprehensive project plan, along with milestones, deliverables, and deadlines, for all in-scope workstreams 

  • Track and resolve risks, issues, both internal and external interdependencies  

  • Track and report on project success measures 

  • Develop and maintain communication schedule in support of broader change management efforts 

  • Collect and share workstream updates as needed 

  • Assist with creation and ongoing maintenance of project artifacts, Miro boards, etc. 

  • Organize and manage project meetings and meeting minutes, including tracking of action items 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders on action items 

  • Track and manage project budget and resourcing 

  • Initiate and maintain purchase orders and vendor invoices 

  • Assist with workshops, interviews, working sessions and other forums

The passionate professional we seek is curious by nature, organizationally and technology savvy, with a strong passion for keeping things in order and flexibility to adjust the course at any minute. Academic background or working knowledge of Finance, Accounting, or Procurement is preferred but not required. You will also possess the following qualifications: 

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master’s degree and 2 years of experience

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of experience

OR

Associate’s degree and 10 years of experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of experience

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • High level understanding of existing digital technologies and data analytics approaches 

  • Effective communication skills (verbal, written) and strong executive presence 

  • Ability and eagerness to wear multiple hats from hands-on execution of required analyses to setting standards to defining vision 

  • Strong business partnership skills and understanding of core business activities 

  • Comfortable with ambiguity; flexible, innovative, and creative mindset 

  • Familiarity with agile/scrum and change management methodologies
