The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is recruiting a Project Manager with experience in setting up, managing and delivering construction projects.

As a member of the Facilities Management Office (FMO), the role holder will work with the University’s schools, departments, staff and students to help identify the key objectives for each project and manage the appointment of external consultants, as required, to create solutions. The role holder will act as the coordinator between the external consultants and the University user groups throughout the project lifecycle so that the key objectives are met and communication is clear at all stages.

Reporting to senior team members within FMO, the role holder will need to demonstrate experience of successful delivery of projects, preferably in Hong Kong, and have an understanding of the Hong Kong statutory processes. It is beneficial if the role holder has experience in working in live campus sites and can provide experience in implementing safety procedures on site.

The appointee will plan for and execute design and construction works projects and oversee and actively manage Assistant Project Managers to deliver other smaller design and construction works projects at the University. He/She will serve as a liaison role between internal and external stakeholders related to each project. The major duties include:  

• Managing the day to day delivery of the projects including procuring and managing the works to be delivered by external Consultants and Contractors.

• Providing real-time reporting on project progress with regard to budget, program and quality.

• Quickly escalating any issues that need senior management decision making and suggesting solutions.

• Managing the Assistant Project Managers to deliver Enhancement Projects and providing liaison with Key personnel.

• Liaising with all internal and external project stakeholders including other sections in FMO and all relevant Government bodies (UGC, BD and DLO etc.) when required for these projects.

The successful applicant is expected to have a bachelor’s degree in a construction related field and be a member of a recognized professional organization such as the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, or Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors. A minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience in the construction industry is required.  The ideal candidate should be proficient in written and spoken English and be able to use construction industry computer software. He/She should be able to drive the progress of the project to successfully deliver a quality product, on time and within budget and have knowledge on progression during each project with a desire to understand best practice examples that support the efficient delivery of construction projects.

Appointment to the position will be on two-year fixed term contract basis, renewable subject to mutual agreement. Competitive remuneration and generous fringe benefits, including housing allowance where appropriate, will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
