In Global Engineering and Real Estate (GERE) we do a lot of different and exciting things! Parts of our offering are scoping, planning and executing major capital projects across all of operations. We do master planning for networks and sites, we also look for new technology applications and development for our processes and facilities. GERE is also responsible for property portfolio strategies and driving sustainability and energy reduction in our facilities. Our department, Engineering Technical Services, has expertise in project management, engineering technical services, project control, built environment, compliance, construction management and process governance. 

This is a Sweden based role, with Sweden as the main geographical area and focus on the major capital projects within the country. This includes delivering projects like CDC new technology, Xigduo expansion and facility upgrade projects. The role will report to a new organisation within ETS, the PTM Lead in Engineering Technical Services, within Global Engineering.

What you’ll do

As the Project Technical Manager, you will establish projects technical direction and be accountable for the delivery of the GMP compliant, functionality and robust performance of the technical packages (e.g. process, packing, automation, critical utilities, HVAC). In doing that, facilitating the projects’ alignment to AstraZeneca’s Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) requirements.

The PTM works closely with Project Managers and sponsors to ensure the technical scopes are aligned with business and project needs. Also, you’ll evaluate the technical competence of design contractors and proposed external team members qualifications and engage with the PM in their selection. Further the PTM agree the technical resource requirements with the Project Manager, and secure the services of Subject Matter Experts, in consultation with the appropriate Leads in Global Engineering, along with support from other Global Technical functions as required or local site technical support. Developing an overview of the potential technical options, then lead the refinement and development to deliver a concept that meets Business time and cost constraints and required performance. Whilst working with appropriate Subject Matter Experts is also included in the role.

  • Work multi-functionally across the Project to create a holistic, integrated, compliant process design, influencing partners as needed and highlighting any impact of decisions on budget and schedule
  • Ensure relevant standards (methodologies, tools, concepts, specifications, guidelines and technical solutions) are applied
  • Develop technical performance criteria together with the end-users and ensures these are met during start-up and early operation
  • Ensure that technical learning is captured and disseminated post-project completion
  • Establish effective collaboration and ways of working with relevant stakeholders at Sweden Operations, Sweden Biologics and Gothenburg

Collaboration is a way of life for us, though the role is to be based in Sweden you will still be an active piece in our international team. Your expertise may be needed for technical assessments at other facilities, in order to do so you need to be able to travel internationally accordingly.

Essentials for the role

  • Extensive Pharmaceutical industry and capital project experience, including knowledge of industry standards, the external supply base and regulatory organisations, and how they impact the business
  • Relevant strategic, technical and leadership expertise with a background in Automation or Process Engineering
  • Experience of working in a global organisation, and awareness of how engineering delivery needs to be adapted to take account of local differences
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, facilitation and influencing skills
