External Manufacturing Quality & Food Safety Senior Technologist

At MARS Food, we are looking for a new colleague in the global EMQA team to unlock the Mars Food growth ambition. The jobholder will be based in Oud Beijerland (The Netherlands, Rotterdam area) to work with external manufacturers in Europe. This role reports to the Global MARS Food EMQA Manager who is also based in Oud Beijerland.

 

The purpose of the job is to work proactively with MARS Food External Manufacturers (both Co-packers & Co-manufacturers) to ensure consistent delivery of high Quality and Food Safe products that delight consumers. This role plays an important role in activating new product & packaging initiatives at External Manufacturers and will support the business to deliver products which meet MARS Q&FS and legal requirements. To achieve this, you will work in close cooperation with internal stakeholders including Product Innovation, Packaging Development, Scientific & Regulatory Affairs, Site & Regional Q&FS, Activity Management, Commercial, and Industrial Engineering.

 

Explore the world of Mars

• Be the primary MARS R&D representative at External Manufacturers
• Lead the External Manufacturer qualification, approval, and on-going verification processes
• Lead new product development and implementation activities at external manufacturers,
• Perform audits to verify the quality and effectiveness of their quality management systems (e.g. HACCP, GMP, Supplier Quality Assurance) and compliance to legal and food safety standards requirements.
• Drive implementation of MARS Q&FS standards, with a specific focus on the External Manufacturing Quality Management (EMQM) standard.

• Responsible for gathering and reporting all food safety and quality related metrics, and drive fact based continuous improvement programs at our external manufacturers.

• Lead risk assessments to ensure that all Q&FS and legal hazards have been identified and effective control measures are in place.
• Lead the management of non-conformances and product related incidents.
• Influence and collaborate with internal business partners on supplier selection, trials and launch plans / dates to ensure timely delivery against activity commitments.

 

What are we looking for? 

• Academic education in food science/technology or related subject.
• Visible passion, leadership and behaviors in line with MARS’ first principle – QUALITY
• Minimum 3 years working experience in a Food Development/Manufacturing environment, preferably with (lead) auditor experience and qualification.
• Strong analytical and problem solving capability
• Proven and effective project management & organising experience
• Strong communicator & relationship builder with good commercial awareness and supplier management skills
• Key skills:
  • Knowledge of Quality & Food Safety (HACCP, GMP/GHP, FSSC22.000)
  • Sound risk assessment & management skills
  • Non-conformance and incidents management skills
  • Basic food microbiology, analytical chemistry and sensory methods
• Leadership Capabilities: Building collaborative relationships, Standing alone, Priority setting, Managing & Measuring work, Drive for results, Organizational Agility, Dealing with Ambiguity,
• Can travel EU wide for team, supplier and internal meetings- est. 20-40% travel
