Job summary

The Red Hat Quality Engineering (QE) team is looking for a Quality Engineering Manager to join us in Beijing, China. In this role, you will manage a QE team and the overall quality of Red Hat OpenShift offerings. You’ll build, organize, and manage a globally distributed testing engineering team. You’ll also participate in creating team structure, team performance reviews, and coaching and mentoring team members. You will define the test strategy and approach for the family of solutions created at Red Hat. While this is not a practical testing role, we’re looking for a manager who can serve as a key decision-maker in technical matters. You should be able to understand and assess the test coverage for automated tests for APIs, GUIs, and performance and usability tests. While developing an approach specific to your solutions, you will align it with the strategic initiatives defined by the Global QE team. As a Quality Engineering Manager, you will have a chance to work with some of the brightest leaders and engineers in the open source industry while serving as an internal advocate for our customers. This role will also give you the opportunity to work with innovative technologies that are a critical focus area for the organization.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Work with the OpenShift team and be actively involved in and responsible for the delivery of the Red Hat OpenShift offering
  • Make sure your team delivers reproducible and data-driven quality service; suggest improvements in the processes and automation
  • Prepare development plans with individual contributors; help them seek guidance and mentors
  • Implement ongoing quality improvement processes while working with cross-functional teams
  • Play an active role in the review of engineering designs to contribute quality assurance (QA) requirements and considerations
  • Prioritize and manage the work by setting a roadmap and goals; ensure delivery against established goals and objectives
  • Deliver risk analysis and actively communicate throughout the whole release cycle of the offering
  • Work cross-functionally within other teams and stakeholders; foster collaborative environment
  • Manage and grow a motivated, engaged, and effective team; play an active role in hiring activities for on-site and remote teams
  • Oversee planning of team's yearly staffing, financial plan, and expenses priorities

Required skills

  • 3 years of experience working as a people manager
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related engineering field, or relevant professional experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • 2+ years of experience managing, guiding, and mentoring a team of engineers; experience with a globally distributed team is a plus
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and work under strict deadlines
  • Ability to learn and apply new skills and processes quickly
  • Background in software QE
  • Experience writing test plans and implementing tests
  • Experience analyzing quality and product metrics
  • Solid experience with at least one software development methodology
  • Creative, solutions-oriented thinking; problem-solving skills
