How will you make an impact?

Our System R&D department is expanding and re-organizing to meet future demands of systems R&D. Therefore we are looking for a manager to lead one of the newly formed R&D groups. The System R&D Department’s work is focused on the research and development and life cycle management of systems; including hardware, software and informatics solutions. Much of the work will be done at Immunodiagnostics headquarters in Uppsala in tight collaboration with the other functions within the System R&D department, but there will also be tight cooperation with one of our sites in Freiburg, Germany. As the R&D Manager, Instruments & Consumables, you will lead the group’s activities, by creating and executing the R&D plans and supporting existing products for the benchtop Phadia Systems and consumables.

As the Manager of the team, you will be the key decision-maker and a member of the System R&D Leadership Team. You will also have budget and personnel responsibilities, including hiring and managing ~14 people (electrical, mechanical, and embedded engineers). You would be leading one of the R&D teams as well as our day to day R&D activities, and report to the Senior Director, System R&D based on site.

This is a key role in developing the function at Uppsala, and you will have the possibility to help our customers how they work and diagnose allergy tests and autoimmune diseases around the world. You would lead the future product development and sustaining activities of the other Phadia systems.

What will you do?

  • People management and coaching
  • Budget & Personnel responsibility
  • Create and execute the R&D plans
  • Decision maker and leader within System R&D
  • As a manager for the instrument team focusing on the Phadia benchtop analyzers and the plastic consumables, you will lead the coordination of the many related activities
  • New development of instruments and consumables
  • Design ownership for Phadia 100 and 200 benchtop analyzers and plastic consumables
  • Product care of existing products throughout the lifecycle
  • Develop and improve processes within the organization
  • Responsible for our mechanics and electrical workshop (processing machines, 3D-printing, etc.) 3D-CAD and PDM-system

How will you get there?

  • Several years of experience R&D positions preferably within invitro diagnostic, life science industries or equivalent regulated environment and broad system understanding
  • Preferably previous experience as manager or leader within instrument/system development for Diagnostics, Life Science or Medical Device but you can also have lead projects & other initiatives
  • Change management experience and experience in developing processes and ways of working
  • University degree within natural science, technology or related field
  • Responsible, thorough and structured way of working and always having quality in mind
  • Good communication skills and relationships building skills
  • Fluent in English & Swedish
  • Product knowledge about Thermo Fisher Immunodiagnostics Phadia Systems as well as competitor products is a bonus
  • Ability to lead development activities in a manner that develops individuals and promotes teamwork
