Siemens Large Drives is looking for a Mechanical Developer/Engineer to join our R & D Group in Norwood, Ohio. In this position you will have the ability to work remotely anywhere in the US. Position Overview Responsible for mechanical design of industrial electric motor components for new product development within the PLM (R&D) team. Responsible for validation of new components using mechanical engineering analysis techniques. Accountable for the functionality, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability of crafted components. Accountable for meeting project milestone dates & expected timelines of tasks or sub-projects. The position will collaborate with the Project Manager / Mechanical Developer Manager within the large induction motors business based in Norwood, OH, USA. This business supports the entire lifecycle – that is, marketing of new products through service and decommissioning – of large induction motors within the Siemens Large Drives Applications – Motors division. Responsibilities Design new components & assemblies using NX and Teamcenter which meet all project technical requirements & project timeline. Use Teamcenter to manage and control CAD models, drawings, and bills of material. Validate components through mechanical calculation & simulation, including static and multifaceted structural analysis in an FEA environment (ANSYS). Manage & maintain mechanical-related technical documents & guidelines (internal & external). Innovate with new design ideas, concepts, & processes to support continuous improvement. Provide technical support to procurement, operations, and manufacturing functions in the purchasing and building of new components. Troubleshoot semi-complex design and manufacturing process issues. Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ME) or Mechanical engineering technology (MET) required. Minimum of 2 years of experience performing CAD mechanical design for industrial equipment. Full time remote working available, but in rare cases, short-term support on-site may be needed for prototyping/testing on a project. General business travel is rare but may be required in special cases. Minimum required skills: Strong 3D modeling & 2D drawing creation in NX (or similar CAD software) Strong knowledge of dimensioning & tolerancing of parts (GD&T) Strong knowledge of industrial materials & manufacturing processes Basic ability to conduct mechanical stress analysis in ANSYS (or similar FEA software) Intermediate-level use of Microsoft Excel & Word Basic ability in technical writing Strong ability to communicate & present technical concepts to non-technical colleagues Experience self-managing, achieving results, and working well within a team with varied strengths Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience Specific experience in rotating equipment mechanical design. Significant experience or education in multifaceted structural analysis of industrial equipment. Notable experience in any of the following areas: Bearing design High-performance fan design Fluid heat exchanger design or fluid flow simulation Troubleshooting of industrial equipment vibration Engineer-to-order process automation (Rulestream) At Siemens, our mission is to transform the every day.
