Job Description
● Lead multiple product development projects through a rigorous Stage Gate process simultaneously, while achieving targeted costs, project timing, and customer and regulatory specifications, using Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS) tools and methodologies.
● Need strong partnership with our external vendor, being virtually and/or physically embedded in their manufacturing, including developing and executing trials, product design and product and quality testing.
● Provide technical leadership in the area of polymer chemistry, polymer processing of common polymers such as polycarbonates, poly-methyl methacrylates, poly-vinyl chlorides, polyurethanes and polyesters, including coating, adhesive synthesis and mixing, lamination, etc.
● Act as a key integrator at business unit level between functions and regions including product development, purchasing, operations, supply chain, and marketing to move projects forward.
● Externally focused to work with commercial teams in the design and development of new products, including VOC analysis, CTQ-mapping and cost-benefit analysis.
● Engage with internal partners, customers and suppliers on key development projects.
● Identify new products, technologies, suppliers and materials meaningful to the reflective industry.
● Support and lead lab testing, like accelerated weathering of polymers, adhesive testing, chemical analysis, printing, etc.
● Follow all corporate safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications
● Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Engineering, Chemistry or related.
● 5-10 years of relevant industry experience, fluent English speaking ability
● M.S. degree required, Ph.D. preferred.
● Experience with glass beaded reflective sheeting manufacturing process is preferred
● Excellent knowledge of polymer chemistry, specifically of engineering polymers and knowledge about engineering, optical, mechanical and physical properties of polymer films.
● Shown success working independently and with medium to large teams, internal and external to drive forward Innovation projects.
● Strong project management skills, and experience executing multi-faceted research and development projects.
● Experience with polymer additives, particularly dyes/pigments and functional additives.
● Worked with and/or developed techniques to test for polymer degradation and stress behavior such as long-term durability testing, chemical resistance, control of surface erosion, etc.
