This is a R&D/Technology Manager role reporting to the Local Division Manager in the Business Area – Motion located in Shanghai, China. You will be responsible for managing and leading the teams of R&D engineers, focusing on project executions, developing of new products with future technologies and maintenance of existing products. As the R&D manager in Shanghai, China, you will be a part of the global R&D leadership team within Large Motors & Generators division.

Your responsibilities

  • Being responsible for technical and scientific proficiency and leadership
  • Serving as a technical resource for internal (research colleagues and management, business units) and external contacts (customers, technology groups, R&D funding bodies, educational institutions, etc.).
  • Partnering with local business unit management, ensuring appropriate representation of needs within R&D projects. Evaluating local market requirements and innovation and providing feedback to appropriate product, manufacturing and R&D strategies.
  • Creating technology roadmaps for assigned areas within the department, providing input regarding technology strategy planning.
  • Delivering high-quality, scalable and cost-effective solutions that meets business requirements over the product lifetime.
  • Planning and ensuring an optimal project portfolio for the department, planning capacity, people and resources for R&D projects. Recommending developing and improving processes and procedures to enhance local laboratory operations.
  • Securing and controlling R&D cost according to the budget, together with the local controller for timely and quality reporting.
  • Managing assigned resources for R&D activities, assigning tasks to team members and supervising workload and work allocation within the project team. Ensuring appropriate competencies are developed and acquired within the team to support development of future products and systems.

Your background

  • A master’s degree in M.Sc. or Ph.D. in engineering or physics, with preference in electric power engineering and specialization in electrical motors.
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience with 5 years of previous experience in a management position or managerial experience as well as experience of organizational leadership, R&D processes, platforms and working in a global working environment.
  • Fair knowledge of products, manufacturing processes, as well as team building.
  • Good experience in Lean Six Sigma.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese both oral and written.
  • Must be self-driven, results focused and commitment to managing change.
  • Must be an effective communicator with good organizational skills.
