Job Summary The Engineering Department Manager is based in Espoo and is in charge of all engineering functions related to CPS-EMEA (3P UPS) Business Unit: Design for New Product Development (NPD) programs for its BU Product Line; Validation for NPD quality through qualification process ; Customer support through sustaining ; Technology and Innovation ; Codes and Standards. The team consists of engineers and technicians professionals and their managerial structure, located either in Espoo or in other engineering centers around the world as the CPS Product Line is managed as a global business and engaging Digital, Services and Energy Transition elements managed by ETD business. The business scope covers 3P UPS products requested for CPS-EMEA business applications; CPS portfolio gather subsets of product aiming at making them integrated Solutions. Given the ever-increasing speed of changes that affects CPS business, a deep understanding of Agility approaches to engineering is mission critical to succeed in this position. Job Responsibilities Essential functions NPD: Participates in the work with Product Management and Sales organizations to maximize market penetration and technical leadership on the market. Participates in the definition of roadmap and supports its execution, promoting deployment of Agile and ProLaunch PMO approaches within Engineering dept Design: Champions innovation in the context of world-wide CPS applications. Guides NPD design achievement from concept to launch. Leads efforts for NPD on a global basis Design & NPD: Ensures that product designs are competitive on a global basis with respect to cost performance, quality, and reliability. Leads product design and technical development in accordance with market requirements, manufacturing / supply chain / logistics efficiency, international safety standards, in line with PMO NPD leadership. Validation: Ensures Validation acts as a third party with NPD projects management and design teams to support their goals with no compromise on quality. Validation & NPD: Ensures targeted product quality through rigorous and updated qualification process as well as reactive sustaining customer support. Validation & Safety: Provides all necessary services to engineering teams, including laboratories, equipment and test expertise. Ensures safety at work for all Montbonnot engineering employees and in all Montbonnot engineering locations, including laboratories. Management: Manages engineering department in CPS-EMEA at Espoo, and represents engineering function at CPS-Emea Leadership team Management: Manages and develops processes to utilize worldwide resources. Management: Manages department budget and performance to forecast. Is responsible for annual budgeting, resource planning and overall management and organizational development. Management: Manages and develops people; identifies, attracts and develops key engineering talent for the organization. Administers performance management process and plans for the career development of subordinates. Support and promote Eaton culture and values, including Ethics, inclusion and Diversity, Well-being, Health and Safety Management & CI: With the rest of the Division’s Engineering management staff, champions continuous process improvements. Improves and develops quality processes for job functions within the department. VAVE and cost-out: Engage relevant resource from his teams to reach PQ-CPS/DPQ Global VAVE targets within his scope. Ensure cost-out actions have no negative impacts on quality. Propose cost-out ideas to increase VAVE pipeline. Essential functions specific to Hardware Solutions Engineering Manager Includes Lab equipment, rules and Safety scope Includes Technology Portfolio Management This role has a global scope, providing CPS-Emea parts to all Regions; it includes strong influential skills at a Global level, including impacts on expenses and teams in Americas and Budget involved Direct in: 3500kEUR, Indirect in other locations: 2000k$ (through GPL and ETD platforms) Number of employees supervised Direct in: 35 Indirect in other locations: 15 (through GPL and ETD platforms) As stated above, role has a Global scope, and requires travelling about once a month in Europe and once per quarter in Asia or Amer (approx. 20% of travel) Qualifications Qualifications Education level required: Master’s degree Electrical Engineering. Years and area of experience required: Minimum of 15 years of professional experience with increasing responsibility in new product development and development 8+ years of experience in the direct management of engineering professionals. Technical knowledge: Strong knowledge of engineering processes and procedures competencies cover power electronics, firmware and mechanics, including EMI and thermal considerations and data center infrastructure understanding. Soft skills: Expertise in scheduling and resource allocation to get results Strong leadership skills to lead and influence others. Excellent communication skills. Strong problem-solving skills Fluent in English Strong demonstration of building organizational capability, achieving results, leadership style, and acting and thinking strategically. Capable of seeing the big picture and ability to motivate the organization towards common goals. Experience working in an international environment. Cross-cultural awareness.
