As a Renal Regional Business Director - West, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives.

AstraZeneca's strategy in Renal focuses on ways to reduce morbidity, mortality, and organ damage by addressing multiple risk factors related to chronic kidney disease. This patient-centric approach is reinforced by science-led life-cycle management programs and technologies, including early research into regenerative methods.

What you’ll do

You will be responsible for creating and leading a both a Renal Specialty Team and a Renal Hospital Team across half of the United States, reporting to the Executive Business Director.  Success will be measured by your ability to meet or exceeded sales targets within the therapeutic area at a regional level by inspiring ownership, accountability, innovation, and engagement across the entire team.   You will help to develop and ensure successful delivery of the Sales Strategy for two launch brands in the Renal space.   Experience in the Renal TA and the hospital and dialysis space will help you to focus your teams on delivering high-impact plans that are tailored to meet customer needs.   Expertise in both customer and account planning will be required to lead a successful team across the key nephrology customers and hospital and dialysis accounts.  Success in cross functional partnership across sales, marketing, market access, and medical will be critical to embedding this new selling team.

You will establish business objectives, assess performance and address skill development for direct reports to ensure appropriate portfolio management.  You will accomplish this by using robust analytical rigor to frame situations and incorporate new perspectives and ideas.  You will anticipate and remove obstacles so that your teams can deliver results and succeed.  You will also provide opportunities for career development by investing in long-term development of others through mentoring, coaching, and continuous feedback.  You will lead and influence division sales leaders through modeling and coaching to AZ's leadership capabilities by creating a climate of trust so team members can act decisively by clarifying roles/responsibilities and establishing boundaries of decision-making.  You will help your team align their business actions to the regional plans, so they can understand and evaluate the potential impact of external events on the organizational and regional strategies by accurately acknowledging both the broad environmental context of situations and the needs and motivations of others, so they know who they need to influence and why.

Essential Requirements

  • More than 3 years in 2nd Line Leadership roles
  • More than 10 years experience in pharmaceutical sales or healthcare
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, financial management, and written as well as oral communications skills
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a newly defined role
  • Demonstrated communication competencies
  • Success in working with cross-functional teams
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A valid driver’s license and safe driving record

Desirable Requirements

  • More than 5 years of experience leading sales teams in the specialty, hospital, and/or dialysis space
  • More than 5 years of experience leading sales teams in the renal space
  • Experience leading a sales team across the entire US, or experience leading teams in various regions across the US
  • Experience in multiple commercial functional areas of the business (e.g. Managed Care, Brand Team/Marketing and Sales Operations)
  • Thorough understanding of hospital and dialysis segments and regional market dynamics
  • Exhibited ability to balance multiple, concurrent work-streams in diverse functional/therapeutic areas
  • Proven presentation and negotiation skills
  • Working relationships with top Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs)
