Objectives:
  • Plant crop protection products help farmers around the world to control weeds, insects and diseases, thus enabling them to satisfy an increasing demand for food, feed, fibre and fuel. Both the biological performance as well as the safety of our products are imperative not only for sustainable agriculture, but also for society. Therefore, potential risks to human health and the environment are thoroughly investigated and minimized throughout the research and development process of a pesticide. to To ensure that our product registrations meet all local regulatory requirements and the highest safety standards, and to sustain the current business and continue growing sustainably, BASF Agricultural Solutions Asia Pacific is building up regional expertise in regulatory sciences (toxicology, consumer safety, environmental fate and ecotoxicology).
  • The Regional Manager, Toxicology, will cover all countries within Asia-Pacific on mammalian toxicology topics for plant protection products including local trials coordination, dossier support, operator exposure risk assessments and technical training to the local country regulatory organizations. He/she will functionally report to the Regional Regulatory Sciences Team Lead, located in Tokyo, and to the Head of the Global Toxicology Team, located in Germany. The position is located in Beijing, China.
  • Main Tasks:
  • Develop strategies to ensure smooth and successful registrations in China and other Asia-Pacific countries.
  • Perform Tier 1 operator exposure risk assessments, identify and recommend necessary mitigation measures, plan and coordinate higher-tier assessments when needed.
  • Support of BASF Agricultural Solutions product stewardship activities.
  • Monitor government practices and policies regarding local toxicological data requirements, study protocols and risk assessment approaches, and communicate to the larger organization.
  • Work closely with the global toxicologist network in BASF (Germany, USA ,Brazil).
  • Influential participation in industry associations (CropLife Asia, CropLife China and other country associations) and regulatory expert groups, for advocating and participating in the development of sound local pesticide evaluation schemes, including toxicological risk assessment approaches.
  • Provide training to local staff in China and other Asia-Pacific countries to enhance understanding of regulatory toxicology and risk assessment principles.
  • Requirements:
  • The ideal candidate is a PhD level graduate or equivalent with a background in toxicology, pharmacy, medicine, or veterinary medicine. He/she should be a specialist in mammalian toxicology with experience and a relevant industry background.
  • Strong experience in the design, conduct or monitoring and interpretation of mammalian toxicology studies is required. Thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements in the area of toxicology, including risk assessments is also desired.
  • Significant experience in registration of chemicals or agrochemicals would be an advantage.
  • The candidate is a creative and motivated team player with excellent communication skills, experience with interacting with regulatory agencies and working with multidisciplinary teams. He/she should have a mature, self-confident and well-balanced personality and possess a high standard of ethical and intellectual integrity.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English is essential.
