Regional Marketing Lead (RML), Northwest Region, ENHERTU Breast Cancer (Field Based)

AstraZeneca Oncology’s portfolio has grown to encompass five cancer franchises:  DNA Damage Response (DDR), Immunotherapy, Lung Cancer, Hematological Cancers, and HER2 Antibody Drug Conjugate (ADC) all of which are underpinned by personalized healthcare and precision medicine technologies.

Position Summary:

New scientific data on ENHERTU® (fam-trastuzumab deruxtecan-nxki) continue to emerge supporting the clinical utility in treating patients with breast cancer.  The Regional Marketing Lead (RML) will be responsible for developing and executing a Key Customer plan for the Northwest Region of the US in order to position ENHERTU as the best in class ADC to healthcare professionals managing breast cancer patients.  As an RML you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives.

This position will report directly into the Head of Regional Marketing, ENHERTU Franchise and will work in close partnership with cross functional partners including brand marketing, field sales, medical affairs, national accounts and other functions as well as counterparts from our alliance partner Daiichi Sankyo, to play a critical role in ensuring ENHERTU has a market leadership presence with key customers.

Location: The final geography might be flexible to the candidate’s location and will cover a subset of the Northwest Region (Western US, Pacific Northwest, parts of the Midwest). 

Job Description

The RML is the lead commercial person responsible for engaging a core group of National and Regional External Scientific Expert (ESEs) customers – leaders in their field of breast cancer.  The RML will develop and implement a regional focused key customer engagement plan in support of commercial and brand objectives.  The RML will also develop and implement strategic insights gathering activities, including Advisory Board Meetings, at the National, Regional and Local Level.   The RML will also develop and implement regional marketing activities aligned with and in support of the brand’s communication and business objectives. 

Key Competencies / Skill Sets and Preferred Requirements:

1. Learn, understand and communicate complex oncology (breast cancer) scientific and clinical data with External Scientific Experts in varied settings, including in-person and virtual engagements. 

2. Quickly establish relationships with, engage, and have convey complex scientific messages with National and Regional External Scientific Experts in Medical Oncology.  Demonstrate highly developed interpersonal communication and interaction skills and apply them in engagements with ESEs, ask tough questions and build strategic advocacy. 

3. Lead and execute strategic congress activities including key presentations planning and coverage, and extensive customer engagements in varied business settings with key customers.  

4. Generate and lead strategic insights gathering during 1:1 engagements, at Congress’s, 3rd party programs, in group settings and during Advisory Board meetings.  Advisory Meetings responsibilities include all phases of initiation, content development, internal alignment / approval, regulatory considerations, medical review, execution, and insights summary for brand strategic decision-making. 

5. Teamwork/ collaboration with CBDs/DSMs, MSLs, NOADs, Enhertu Brand Marketing and Daiichi Sankyo Alliance partners.  This requires highly collaborative ways of working, ability to deliver projects.

6. Marketing acumen, experience and capability and an ability to identity, project manage and implement regional marketing opportunities.  Project management requirements include taking projects through the MLR (Medical, Legal, Regulatory) review process and developing an annual operational plan that ladders up to the Brand Strategic Plan.   

7.  Oncology Business Acumen and a comprehensive understanding of the delivery of oncology care in the US, including the role of large payers, GPOs, cancer care delivery in different settings (academic, community, group practices), precision medicine, national and regional congresses and large customers in the Northwest region.

Key accountabilities:

  • Establish and lead ovarian cancer and breast cancer External Scientific Expert interactions.
  • Create and execute a regional Breast Cancer Key Customer Engagement plan.
  • Generate and inform Marketing and Franchise Leadership of important customer strategic insights to help inform brand and business decision-making. 
  • Utilize insights and input from External Scientific Experts to help build commercial strategies through appropriate tactics (advisory boards, expert consultants, and 1:1 engagements).  
  • Execute the franchise strategic plan at national, regional, and local scientific meetings with key customers with common purpose and consistent with strategy.
  • Escalate market challenges/barriers to leadership to consider appropriate ways to address these between medical affairs and commercial.
  • Successfully collaborate and coordinate customer / business engagements with ESEs and other Key Customers in conjunction with commercial colleagues (Brand Marketing, DSMs/CBDs, PSSs, NOADs, OKAMs and Medical Affairs) within AstraZeneca and our Merck Alliance Partners with high impact
  • Possess strong business acumen skills, as role is responsible for managing multiple program budgets, timelines, process and procedures.
  • Develop expertise on thought leaders and the Breast Cancer marketplace.
  • Development of a 3rd party program plan for the Northwest region

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree; preferably in a relevant field
  • 8+ years of experience in pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry with experience in one or more of the following: managed markets, brand marketing, sales management, strategic planning
  • Oncology Therapy Area or specialty care experience
  • Highly skilled in relationship building with External Scientific Experts
  • Be available to work some evenings and weekends
  • Overnight travel will be required
  • Expected travel 50% -70% monthly

Preferred qualifications

  • MBA in relevant field
  • Prior in-line marketing experience or Marketing Agency experience
  • Experience working in agency setting (HCP Marketing)
