Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Electrical/Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3 years of industrial experience within a relevant industry. Experience in a technical/engineering role.
- Experience in two of the following: Electron Microscopy, Fracture Mechanics/Fractography, Finite Element Analysis, Computed Tomography X-Ray, Scanning Probe Microscopy, Thermal Analysis, Analytical Chemistry.
- Ability to speak and write in Mandarin and English fluently and idiomatically.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent
- Experience in a technical engineering role focused on materials engineering, design, design validation, product development, field testing, failure analysis, reliability, and/or equivalent.
- Experience working in a production environments.
- Experience working at multiple stages in the product lifecycle.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
About the job
As a Reliability Engineer, you will play a key role in creating new consumer electronic products that meet a high bar for reliability and performance. You will work closely with the product management and design engineering teams to define standards, specify tests, and then supervise test execution and failure analysis. A broad engineering background and command of statistical methods will help to inform design of new products. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will be key to ensuring adoption of your technical recommendations.
The Failure Analysis group within Reliability Engineering conducts investigations into failed materials, components, assemblies and products during development, production, and use for multiple groups within Hardware. The team uses its state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to study the characteristics of materials and their failure mechanisms. As a Reliability Engineer, you will work closely with product teams and other cross-functional teams to drive corrective actions within Hardware and within the supply chain.

Responsibilities
- Investigate failures, identify root cause, and work to drive corrective actions with product teams within Hardware and within Google.
- Develop novel methods for analysis using in-house equipment which reduce cost and improve turnaround time of investigations.
- Use materials experience to help select materials and specify testing for materials qualification.
- Work with partners/vendors/internal teams to develop best-in-class materials for product teams.
- Manange laboratory and analytical equipment.
