Google's custom-designed machines make up one of the largest and most powerful computing infrastructures in the world. The Hardware Testing Engineering team ensures that this cutting-edge equipment is reliable. In the R&D lab, you design test equipment for prototypes of our machinery and develop the protocols used to scale these tests for the entire global team. Working closely with design engineers, you give input on designs to improve our hardware until you're sure it meets Google's standards of quality and reliability.

You use your technical expertise to create test plans for highly complex platforms (e.g., validating the interaction of multiple pieces of equipment at the networking and subsystem levels), and diagnose highly complex hardware or software issues using your deep knowledge of component design characteristics. You also consult on testing issues for vendors and manufacturers.

As a Lab Manager, you will manage a team of hardware test engineers responsible for consumer hardware products on Pixel phone and Module reliability testing. You will also be responsible for being the liaison between Reliability Engineering teams and the Lab team, ensuring lab resources are accounted for and that we are ready for new products entering research and development and/or sustaining efforts. Additionally, you will manage lab budget, hiring, performance management, and the well-being of the team.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the labs are organized and safe.
• Manage a team to execute tests required from the Reliability Engineering team, including lab measurements, environmental and mechanical reliability testing, performance measurements and monitoring, and data analysis.
• Plan and manage budget (i.e., internal resources and equipment).
• Develop and present reports.
• Manage the team to support product reliability from prototype stage all the way through end of life.
