Reporter-Consumer Beat
Dow JonesBeijingUpdate time: May 11,2016
Job Description
The position, to be based in Beijing or Shanghai, calls for someone with a nose for scoops and an eye for big stories. The reporter should be agile enough to handle breaking, market-moving news and then move on to deep dives, rich with authoritative analysis and memorable reporting. The consumer beat covers an essential part of the China story. The rising power of China’s middle class consumers has rewarded global brands that cater to their desires and punished others for failing to adjust to changing tastes. Tracking their habits concentrates the minds of C-suite executives, global economists and the Chinese government.

We’re looking for an experienced hand. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in corporate or economic coverage. A collegial attitude is a must, as is an aptitude for trend-spotting. Chinese language ability is a plus. The job reports to the China bureau chief.
