Job Description
The CUHK Business School is a leading global business school in Hong Kong. Since its establishment in Hong Kong in 1963, the CUHK Business School has gained world recognition of nurturing business leaders with immense contributions in Asia Pacific. The School has been offering a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes (MBA, MSc, MAcc, EMBA, MPhil, PhD) with over 4,600 students, as well as executive education. As a pioneering business school in Asia, it has one of the most extensive alumni networks in the region, with over 35,000 alumni around the world.

The Hong Kong – Shenzhen Finance Research Centre (香港深圳聯合金融研究中心) is set up to promote and support cutting-edge research on all aspects of cross-border collaborations in the Greater Bay Area, which is one of the main themes in CUHK’s 2016-2020 Strategic Plan. By centralising investments in data and computing facilities, the Centre will maximise synergies between research projects on various topics of cross-border finance. The Centre will invite leading scholars and host international conferences to promote cross-border finance research from the CUHK community. The Centre now seeks to appoint a high-calibre candidate to the position of Research Associate.

Applicants should have/be (i) a Master's degree, preferably in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a related discipline; (ii) at least four years' post-qualification experience, preferably in data management and data analysis; (iii) proven experience in coding (R, Python, SAS, etc) and managing large financial and other databases; (iv) self-motivated with a strong sense of commitment, attention to detail as well as excellent numerical, communication, organisational and interpersonal skills; (v) a team player but also capable of working on own initiatives and under minimal supervision; and (vi) an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including fluency in Putonghua).

Reporting to the Co-Directors of the Centre, the appointee is responsible for (a) creating algorithms to extract information from large unorganized metadata and developing predictive systems to improve data quality; (b) identifying, isolating and quantifying empirical patterns within metadata; (c) implementing new technologies aligned with our center's core researching and teaching mission; (d) using a modern data science toolkit to manage multi-terabyte databases, building data pipelines, preprocessing data, evaluating machine learning models, analyzing networks, and producing meaningful data visualizations; (e) liaising with internal and external stakeholders of the Centre, including faculties from different departments of CUHK Business School and Shenzhen Finance Institute of CUHK (Shenzhen); (f) acting as the first point of contact for any data-related issues of the Centre; (g) acquiring, managing, and organising public and proprietary databases; (h) providing other technical supports such as running a website, operating public accounts on social media, etc.; and (i) serving as the assistant to the Co-Directors of the Centre. Working at flexible hours and travelling outside Hong Kong will be required.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take a test in solving a data-related problem.

Appointment will initially be made on contact basis for two years, renewable subject to mutual agreement and good performance.
