AstraZeneca Durham has expanded and strengthened its respiratory products portfolio, delivering approvals and launches for multiple global inhalation products, with a robust pipeline in development. Our mission, through dedication to creating a culture of inclusion and teamwork, is to develop innovative therapeutics for respiratory diseases and conditions including asthma and COPD. This site is responsible for the product, device, process, and analytical development of new inhalation products in the AZ portfolio. The site also manufactures and packages clinical supplies to meet clinical trial demands. What you will do:

  • Participate in and contribute to the design of well-controlled studies using knowledge of MDI sciences.

  • Independently author manufacturing and testing protocols using knowledge of manufacturing processes and analytical test methods (e.g., NGI, DDU).

  • Trend and analyze data with the use of statistical software. Communicate results to stakeholders in technical sub-teams and product development teams.

  • Will perform laboratory work using force profiling, computed tomography (CT), and SEM/EDX.

  • Collaborates cross-functionally with analytical sciences, manufacturing, and quality assurance to meet project timelines.

  • Document laboratory work in electronic laboratory notebook following good documentation practices, and maintain the lab in a cGLP manner and keep up to date with GMP/GSP and safety regulations. ​

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in the field of chemistry, pharmaceutics, or engineering. Some chemistry laboratory course work required. ​

Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of pharmaceutical industry experience

  • Working knowledge of inhalation product tests (e.g., NGI, DDU, leak rate, TCA, KF), as well as MDI container closure system and how it interacts with the formulation.

  • Familiar with safe laboratory practices.

  • Competency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is required.

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and through technical writing (documentation of laboratory experiments). ​

Desired Skills:

  • Hands-on laboratory experience with a variety of techniques and equipment is preferred; HPLC/GC and GC-MS experience is preferred.

  • Previous experience working with hazardous materials is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate actively and proactively with others in a cross-functional team.

  • High level of initiative and ability to work independently.

  • Comfortable making decisions in an ambiguous environment.

  • Takes accountability for actions, gets results, learns from mistakes – is direct and truthful and therefore widely trusted – delivers on promises, goals, and expectations

  • Outstanding organizational, planning, and prioritization skills with the ability to multitask and adapt; able to synthesize a large amount of information and deliver results despite shifting environment

  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills and attention to detail
