Position Summary:

At Bentley Systems we design and offer software and services for geotechnical engineering. The PLAXIS team is involved in applied research, product definition, software development, documentation, and high-end services related to the PLAXIS product line for applications in soils and rocks. Our research team contributes directly and indirectly to the development of advanced PLAXIS software products and the fulfillment of users’ needs.

As Research Engineer you will have the opportunity to conduct necessary applied research, specification, implementation, documentation, verification, and validation of PLAXIS features, related to the use of the software in various practical applications in geotechnical engineering, such as dams and dikes, tunnels, foundations, excavations, and underground structures. Most of the activities involve the implementation of numerical models.

 

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Research, design, implement, maintain, and document advanced numerical algorithms for solving complex geomechanical problems
  • Formulate and document benchmarks and case studies
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of product feature specifications
  • (Co)Author technical papers either for conference proceedings and international journal publication
  • Supervise MSc/Ph.D. students during their study in connection to PLAXIS developments
  • Assist the Support team in replying to complex user queries
  • Contribute to internal and external activities for knowledge and expertise sharing
  • Engage with a network of experts (academic or professional) to collaborate with
  • Other job-related duties as may be assigned by management

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Computational Mechanics, Applied Mathematics or similar field, with focus on numerical analysis
  • Experience with the implementation of discretization methods (e.g. FEM, FDM, MPM, SPH, etc.) in C/C++ or Fortran
  • Experience in using Microsoft Visual Studio and version control systems
  • Clear research interest with a drive to apply this in the engineering practice
  • Proficient in English (written and verbal)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Able to work autonomously as well as in a team
