Job Description

Position Summary:

At Bentley Systems we design and offer software and services for geotechnical engineering. The Plaxis team is involved in applied research, product definition, software development, documentation and high-end services related to the PLAXIS product line for applications in soils and rocks. Our research team contributes directly and indirectly to the development of the advanced PLAXIS software products and the fulfilment of user’s needs.

 

As Research Engineer you will be responsible for the necessary applied research, specification, implementation, documentation, verification and validation of PLAXIS features, related to the use of the software in various practical applications in geotechnical engineering, such as dams and dikes, tunnels, foundations, excavations and underground structures. Most of the activities involve the implementation of numerical models.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Research, implement and document advanced soil/rock constitutive models in the PLAXIS products
  • Maintain and enhance core constitutive models available in the PLAXIS library
  • Formulate and document benchmarks and case studies
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of product features specification
  • (Co)Author scientific papers either for conference proceedings and international journal publication
  • Supervise MSc/PhD students during their study in connection to PLAXIS developments
  • Assist our Support team in replying to complex user queries
  • Contribute to internal and user-facing activities for knowledge and expertise sharing
  • Engage with a network of experts (academic or professional) to collaborate with
  • Other job-related duties as may be assigned by management

 

Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Geotechnical Engineering or related field
  • Experience in developing advanced soil/rock constitutive models using Fortran, C/C++ or Python
  • Clear research interest with a drive to apply this in the engineering practice
  • Proficient in English (written and verbal)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Able to work autonomously as well as in a team

 

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Implementation experience in commercial packages
  • Implementation experience with discretization strategies such as FEM and FDM
  • Familiar with PLAXIS products
